WEDNESDAY DAILY

THE MAQUOKETA ART EXPERIENCE/MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
BUILDING DOWNTOWN, WAS BUILDT IN 1876  AND WAS CALLED
"CENTENNIAL HALL"....AND FOR MANY YEARS WAS HOME TO OSTERHAUS
PHARMACY.
THE FRONT OF THE BUILDING, MOSTLY METAL, WAS TAKEN  OFF TO EXPOSE
THE ORGINAL BRICK FRONT AND THIS SUMMER AND FALL, THE BUILDING
IS HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK TO LOOK LIKE WHEN BUILDT, WITH NEW
UPSTAIRS WINDOWS.     THE TOP NAME...CENTENNIAL HALL 1876.... WAS CONCRETE AND HAD TO BE REPLACED WITH A NEW CONCRETE AS SHOWN ABOVE.  LARRY McDEVITT (COUNTY SUPERVISOR)
PUT IT IN PLACE THIS WEEK, BY HIMSELF.   IT WAS REDONE IN DUBUQUE BY A
CONCRETE FIRM, IS 6 INCHES THICK AND THE TWO SIDE-BY-SIDE PIECES WEIGH OVER 400 POUNDS.    IT SHOULD LAST FOREVER.   SOME BRICK WORK AROUND IT STILL NEEDS TO BE DONE BY LARRY.   LARRY HAS BEEN THE
MAIN FORCE BEHIND THE BUILDING'S RESTORATION WITH THE HELP  OF
G.L. STOCKHAM AND SON.     THE WORK IS NEARING COMPLETION AND
I AND HUNDREDS MORE ARE ANXIOUS TO SEE THE COMPLETED PROJECT.
