WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

WARM (HOT) WEATHER AGAIN TODAY AND IT WILL CONTINUE FOR THE
REST OF THE WEEK.     SOME SCHOOL DISTRICTS HAD EARLY-OUT TODAY BECAUSE OF THE HEAT.   NO MAQUOKETA.


MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER PAT FIER INVESTIGATED A TWO CAR ACCIDENT AROUND 5:30 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.   LORI EFFENHEIM, AGE 54,OF MAQUOKETA AND JOHN NELSON, 81, OF MAQUOKETA, WERE BOTH
TRAVELING WEST ON CARLISLE STREET WHEN NELSON WAS MAKING A TURN ONTO 200TH AVENUE AND WAS STRUCK IN THE REAR BY EFFENHEIM.
$2,000 DAMAGE TO EACH CAR AND NO INJURIES AND NO CITATIONS.


JACKSON COUNTY WILL HAVE A DAY AGAIN TO DISPOSE OF UNWANTED, EXPIRED AND UNUSED MEDICATIONS.    THERE WILL BE THREE DROP-OFF
SITES, INCLUDING IN MAQUOKETA AT THE SENIOR CENTER.   THE
DATE. SEPTEMBER 26TH.


THE EMERALD  ASH BORER HAS BEEN CONFIRMED IN TWO PLACES IN
DUBUQUE COUNTY.   IT IS A HIGHLY DESTRUCTIVE INSECT OF ASH TREES.
TWENTY EIGHT COUNTIES IN IOWA HAVE HAD A DISCOVERY OF EAB.
NONE FOUND SO FAR (THANK GOODNESS) IN JACKSON COUNTY.
NONE IN JONES COUNTY EITHER.    BUT, ONE HAS BEEN ALSO FOUND
IN CLINTON AND CEDAR COUNTIES.  

DAN KUNAU, AGE 76, OF PRESTON DIED AUGUST 26TH.   HE AND HIS BROTHER DICK WORKED MANY YEARS IN PARTNERSHIP OPERATING KUNAU
IMPLEMENT IN PRESTON AND DEWITT.    SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE
JAN AND 4 CHILDREN, INCLUDING TODD OF DAVENPORT (FORMERLY OF
MAQUOKETA) WHO NOW RUNS THE BUSINESS.   DICK, RETIRED, LIVES
IN PRESTON.

BOWLING HAS STARTED UP AGAIN IN MAQUOKETA.    THE FIRST LEAGUE BOWLED THIS PAST MONDAY NIGHT.

I HAVE A SMALL, NEW APARTMENT FOR RENT ABOVE THE THEATRE.
