FRIDAY DAILY REPORT

NICE....LITTLE WINDY....DAY IN MID 70'S.    TOMORROW,  A LITTLE WARMER AND  STILL A CHANCE FOR RAIN FATHER'S DAY.

HAD A BRAT LUNCH TODAY AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK PARKING LOT.
THEY WERE "GRILLING FOR CHARITY", RAISING MONEY FOR THE "BACK PACK" LUNCH PROGRAM IN MAQUOKETA.     GOOD TURN OUT.

THE HOTROD TOUR THROUGH MAQUOKETA TODAY WENT SMOOTHLY AND
WITH LESS NUMBERS THAN EXPECTED.    THERE WERE "THOUSANDS" OF CARS BUT MOST DID NOT TAKE THE  MAQUOKETA EXIT AND WENT NORTH ON FOUR-LANE 61 UP TO DUBUQUE.      FOR AWHILE...AROUND 8:30 A.M. TO 9:30 A.M....THERE WAS BUMPER-TO-BUMPER TRAFFIC  BY THOSE OPTING TO VISIT US AND GO UP TO BELLEVUE TOO.     THOSE WHO COULD NOT FIND LODGING LAST NIGHT IN BETTENDORF CAME UP TO  MAQUOKETA AND  FILLED ALL THREE HOTELS AND THE BED AND BREAKFAST.     SO, THE TOUR WAS GOOD FOR LOCAL LODGING FACILITIES AND SOME GAS STATIONS.     ONE STATION ON THE ROUTE THOUGH, SAID HE HAD ONLY 4 HOTROD CUSTOMERS.
THE OWNERS OF THIS CAR PARKED IN FRONT OF KMAQ LAST NIGHT AND GOT A ROOM AT THE DECKER HOTEL.     HE TOLD ME HE HAD TWO YEARS OF HARD WORK ON THIS (52 OR 53 CHEVY) AND HAS IT INSURED FOR $50,000.
BEAUTIFUL CAR INSIDE AND OUT.    AND HE TOLD ME AFTER THE HOTROD
TOUR, WHICH COMES TO AN END AT THE WISCONSIN DELLS, HE AND HIS
WIFE WILL HEAD FOR CHICAGO AND GET ON ROUTE 66 AND TAKE IT TO
CALIFORNIA.   THEN, COME BACK ON THE LINCOLN (HIGHWAY 30) TO NEW YORK AND THEN HOME TO TENNESSEE.   THEY THOUGHT THEY SHOULD BE BACK HOME BY CHRISTMAS TIME OR EARLIER.

TO SUM IT UP...TODAY WAS A BETTER THAN AVERAGE DAY  FOR  MAQUOKETA BUSINESS AND A GOOD JOB OF ADVERTISING MAQUOKETA.      THANKS TO THE MAQUOKETA CORONADO CAR CLUB FOR SPEARHEADING THE CAR EVENT!

FOUR PEOPLE THIS WEEK ASKED THE JACKSON COUNTY SUPERVISORS
TO PUT A GUARD RAIL ON COUNTY ROAD E17 OR 150TH STREET EAST OF ANDREW, WHERE THE FATALITY ACCIDENT OCCURRED LAST FRIDAY.
NO DECISION WAS MADE ON THE ROAD THAT HAS A 9% GRADE DOWN THE HILL TOWARD A BRIDGE.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL WILL MEET AT 6 P.M. MONDAY.   ON THE
AGENDA IS MORE DISCUSSION ON THE STREET SCAPE PROGRAM FOR
DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND....
DENNIS VOY
