FRIDAY DAILY

A LONGTIME DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA BUSINESS CLOSED TODAY.
THIS LARGE BUILDING ON NORTH OLIVE STREET HAS BEEN A TIRE STORE FOR
AROUND 60 YEARS.
WHEN I CAME TO TOWN IN 1958 IT WAS THE HARRIS PENROSE GOODYEAR STORE.
THEN IT BECAME JACKSON COUNTY TIRE.
AND FOR MANY MANY YEARS HAS BEEN TANDEM TIRE.
I TALKED TO OWNER MARK GRIFFIN OF DUBUQUE THIS AFTERNOON AND HE SAID IT WAS A CASE OF NOT GETTING DESIRED HELP FOR THE STORE, WITH THIS AREA'S LOW UNEMPLOYMENT RATE.     THE BUILDING LEASE WITH RICK DECKER OF MAQUOKETA  (WHO WAS ONE OF THE ORIGINAL OWNERS WHEN TANDEM TIRE GOT STARTED), NOW RETIRED,  WILL EXPIRE IN JUNE.    ALL OTHER STORES WILL REMAIN OPEN IN CEDAR FALLS, CLINTON, DECORAH, POTOSI AND TWO IN DUBUQUE.
CLICK-ON THE NOTICE TO ENLARGE IT.
THE STORE EMPLOYED 8 AND SOME WILL TRANSFER TO ONE OF THE OTHER STORES.
GRIFFIN SAID SINCE A  LOT OF TIRE WORK IS DONE IN THE FIELD, HE IS SURE
HE WILL KEEP MANY OF MAQUOKETA'S CUSTOMERS WHO CAN CALLL ONE OF
THE TWO PHONE NUMBERS ABOVE WHEN TIRE WORK IS NEEDED.
