FRIDAY DAILY REPORT

SUNSHINE MOST OF TODAY AND THEN AS FORECAST, THE RAIN STARTED
AT 3 THIS AFTERNOON.
SATURDAY AND SUNDAY WILL BE SUNNY BUT A LITTLE COOLER THAN
SHOULD BE AT THIS TIME OF YEAR.

JACKSON COUNTY DEPUTY SHERIFF RUSS LONG INVESTIGATED AN ACCIDENT YESTERDAY AT AROUND 11:45 A.M. ON 82ND AVENUE.    KYLE HARLAND, AGE 19, OF NORTH ARCADE STREET WAS GOING SOUTH ON 82ND AVENUE AND APPROACHING A BRIDGE WHEN AN UNKNOWN VEHICLE INTENTIONALLY BUMPED THE REAR OF HIS VEHICLE, CAUSING HIM TO LOOSE CONTROL AND THEN HE STRUCK THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE BRIDGE.    HIS 2,000 DODGE  RECEIVED $2,000 IN DAMAGES AND HE WAS NOT INJURED.    A PASSENGER, 7-MONTH OLD JOHN BENTHIN WAS TAKEN TO THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL TO BE CHECKED FOR INJURIES AND NO SERIOUS INJURIES WERE REPORTED.

A MAQUOKETA MAN WHO HAS SERVED MORE THAN 30 YEARS IN PRISON FOR A 1984 MURDER RECENTLY WAS GRANTED WORK RELEASE.    MITCHELL J. RONEK, AT AGE 17, KILLED TOM GOODWIN OF MAQUOKETA IN 1984 AT THE HURST HOTEL.   HE WAS TRIED AS AN ADULT AND SENTENCED IN 1985 TO LIFE IN PRISON.  HE WILL DO THE WORK RELEASE AT A FACILITY IN CEDAR RAPIDS.

TOM DEVINE, MAQUOKETA CHAMBER DIRECTOR, LAST NIGHT WAS
ELECTED PRESIDENT OF THE JACKSON COUNTY TOURISM ASSOCIATION AT THE ANNUAL MEETING IN  PRESTON.     HE REPLACES DARYL PARKER,
WHO IS THE  DIRECTOR OF JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION AND WHO
HAS HELD THE TOURISM JOB THE PAST  2 YEARS.    DEVINE ALSO WAS AWARDED THE PROMOTIONAL PARTNER AWARD, PRESENTED ANNUALLY AT THE DINNER, TO THE TOURISM MEMBER FOR CONTINUOUS PROMOTION OF
TOURISM IN JACKSON COUNTY.

IN HIGH SCHOOL SOCCER LAST NIGHT, BOTH THE MAQUOKETA BOYS
AND GIRLS SOCCER TEAMS WON OVER NORTHEAST.   THE GIRLS WON
3 TO 0 AND THE BOYS, 3 TO 1.

THEY POURED CONCRETE ON THE SHORT STREET NEXT TO THE DECKER
HOTEL TODAY.    THE FIRST STREET TO GET RE-PAVED.    BECAUSE OF THE RAIN, THEY HAD TO COVER IT WITH A TARP.

BRAD DEERY WAS ELECTED CHAIRMAN OF THE IOWA AUTOMOBILE DEALER'S ASSOCIATION AT THE ANNUAL MEETING.   HE PREVIOUSLY SERVED AS A DISTRICT DIRECTOR AND IN 2014, AS THE ASSOCIATION SECRETARY.   THE TRADE ORGANIZATION REPRESENTS MORE THAN 300 CAR AND TRUCK
DEALERS IN THE STATE.     BRAD HAS DEALERSHIPS IN MAQUOKETA,
PLEASANT HILL AND BURLINGTON.
