WORK IS PROGRESSING AT GOODENOW FIELD.     IT WILL REALLY LOOK DIFFERENT AND WILL BE READY FOR THE FOOTBALL SEASON STARTING IN AUGUST.   DONATIONS ARE BEING TAKEN AND CAN BE SENT TO BOB GAVIN AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK.

NO LONGER WILL THE STORE BE OPEN 24 HOURS.

SATURDAY DAILY

A LONGTIME POPULAR RESTAURANT IN MAQUOKETA IS CLOSING AT 8 P.M.
TUESDAY, APRIL 30TH.    IT OPENED IN 1971 AND THE PRESENT OWNERS HAVE OWNED IT FOR 36 YEARS.    THEY ARE GOING TO SELL IT.





























THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE OPENED FOR THE SEASON LAST NIGHT, WITH NEARLY A FULL LOT.   ABOVE, STANDING NEXT TO THE NEW TICKET BOOTH, IS CASIE CASEL, WHO  FINISHED BUILDING THE LITTLE BUILDING AT 5 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON.    IT WAS NEEDED AND IT IS NICE.    AND THE  YOUNGEST AT THE THEATRE LAST NIGHT WAS HIS GRANDSON GRAYSON, AGE 2 MONTHS.     YES..CASIE IS HAPPY ABOUT THE JOB CASEL CONSTRUCTION DID, BUT EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH HIS (AND WIFE BILLIE'S) FIRST GRANDCHILD.

RAINY COLD WET DAY TODAY, WITH SOME SNOW, AND THAT MEANS A SLOW NIGHT TONIGHT AT
THE DRIVE-IN.

BUT BETTER WEATHER STARTS TOMORROW AND
BACK IN THE 60'S BY NEXT WEDNESDAY.

WATCHING THE RED HOT CARDINALS.    THEY HAVE WON THEIR LAST 5 GAMES...ARE IN FIRST PLACE AND PLAY THE REDS NEXT.    FUN AND GOOD FOOD AT BUSCH
STADIUM, COURTESY THE CARDINALS, HOSTING 147 CARDINAL RADIO STATIONS,
THE LARGEST RADIO NETWORK IN THE MAJORS.    THIS IS OUR 34TH YEAR
OF BROADCAST CARDINAL  GAMES ON KMAQ-FM 95.1.      RADIO STATIONS
IN NEWTON, ATLANTIC, KEOKUK AND DES MOINES ALSO BROADCAST CARDINAL GAMES.



THE  JACKSON COUNTY PREVENTION COALITION WILL BE CONDUCTING A MEDICATION DROP-OFF IN FRONT OF THE MAQUOKETA POLICE STATION THIS SATURDAY, APRIL 27TH FROM 1O UNTIL11 A.M.    AN OFFICER WILLBE CURBSIDE TO TAKE YOUR UNUSED, UNWANTED AND EXPIRED MEDICATIONS FOR 
 SAFE DISPOSAL.

THE "WALKIN' THE LINE" JOHNNY CASH TRIBUTE SHOW LAST SATURDAY NIGHT WAS A GREAT SHOW, WITH AROUND 700 ATTENDING.   BENNIE WHEELS SOUNDED JUST LIKE JOHNNY.

EASTER WITH ADAM AND AMY AND KIDS IN ARIZONA.

WITH ABOUT 7 VENDORS AND NOW AVERAGES AROUND 14 AND  HAS HAD AS HIGH AT 19.    COST

THE NEW TICKET BOOTH AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE IS NEARING COMPLETION. SATURDAY,  CASEY CASEL, OF CASEL CONSTRUCTION IN MAQUOKETA (THE THEATRE'S DO-ALL MAN FOR 8 YEARS) AND HIS EMPLOYEE  LUKE BOWMAN, WORKED MOST OF THE DAY GETTING BOOTH ENCLOSED.      TODAY,  JADYN (OF LaMOTTE) WITH WIRE ONE, DID THE WIRING.      THE DRIVE-IN OPENS FRIDAY, APRIL 26TH.
YOU BET!    WE ARE GETTING THE TRAIN READY FOR ITS 47TH YEAR OF GIVING FREE TRAIN RIDES BEFORE SHOW TIME.     I BOUGHT THE THEATRE  IN 1972 AND LATER IN
YEAR, BOUGHT THE TRAIN THAT WAS IN STORAGE AT A CEDAR RAPIDS MALL.
SO, WHO KNOWS HOW OLD THE TRAIN IS.

ROTARY TODAY, ABOUT THE JACKSON COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY AND THE
SHELTER JUST NORTHEAST OF MAQUOKETA, ON THE HILL OFF OF HIGHWAY 62.
THIS MORNING, THE SHELTER HAD 23 CATS AND 18 DOGS FOR ADOPTION.
GO OUT TODAY OR TOMORROW AND ADOPT ONE.     YOU AND YOUR FAMILY
WILL BE HAPPY AND THE YOUR NEW PET WILL BE VERY HAPPY.

























YESTERDAY, I MENTIONED THE STAGE HAS DISAPPEARED AT THE MCHS OLD GYM.   THIS IS WHAT IT LOOKED LIKE WHILE COMING DOWN.   SUPT. HOOVER,  (FELLOW ROTARIAN) WAS AT THE MEETING TODAY AND SAID THE FORMER STAGE AREA AND ROOM ADJACENT WILL BE CONVERTED TO A PRACTICE/WORKOUT ROOM FOR THE
ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT.

GRANT WOOD WAS IN MAQUOKETA TODAY AT THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM
FOR THE WEEKLY "BROWN BAG LUNCH" SPONSORED BY THE JACKSON COUNTY
HISTORICAL SOCIETY.     A FULL HOUSE IN THE BASEMENT COMMUNITY
ROOM HEARD  TOM MILLIGAN DO GRANT WOOD IN A 45 MINUTE TALK ON THE
LIFE OF GRANT, WHO MILLIGAN CALLED THE PRAIRIE REBEL.   I THINK
EVERYONE ENJOYED THE TALK.      CURATOR BONNIE MITCHELL GETS SOME
INTERESTING PROGRAMS EVERY WEEK FOR THE TUESDAY NOON EVENT, WHERE
YOU BRING YOUR BROWN BAG, AND DESSERT IS FREE.    ANYONE CAN
COME TUESDAYS, SO TAKE ONE IN SOON.  NO CHARGE.

THEY'RE TEARING UP THE TOWN!    TAKING THE OLD BLEACHERS AWAY NEXT
TO THE GRANDSTAND AT THE FAIRGROUNDS.    TO BE REPLACED BY NEW.
TAKING AWAY THE STAGE IN THE HIGH SCHOOL OLD GYM.    MANY OF YOU PERFORMED OR WATCHED A GAME ON THAT STAGE.
AND THEY ARE TEARING UP GROUND AT GOODENOW FIELD, STARTING THE BIG
RE-BUILDING OF THE FOOTBALL AND SOCCER STADIUM.
AND ON MY WAY BACK TO T HE STATION, I SAW A CITY EMPLOYEE.... NOT TEARING
UP BUT FILLING IN....POT HOLES.
