EASTER SUNDAY WAS A PRETTY NICE WEATHER DAY!
TODAY...MOSTLY CLOUDY AND IN UPPER 50'S
THE FRIDAY AND SATURDAY FORECAST LOOKS DESCENT FOR VINTAGE
TORQUEFEST AT THE FAIRGROUNDS AND THE DRIVE-IN THEATRE. THOUSANDS
OF VINTAGE CAR FANS FROM AROUND THE MIDWEST ARE EXPECTED.

TODAY, IOWA AG SECRETARY BILL NORTHEY SAID IT HAS BEEN A REAL CHALLENGE GETTING THE CROP IN THE GROUND THIS YEAR BECAUSE OF THE WET AND COLD
APRIL WEATHER. HE SAID 3% OF IOWA'S CORN ACREAGE HAS BEEN PLANTED
COMPARED WITH 61 PERCENT AT THIS TIME LAST YEAR AND THE FIVE-YEAR
AVERAGE OF 28 PERCENT.

A ONE-CAR ACCIDENT AT 2 A.M. YESTERDAY ON HIGHWAY 62 THREE MILES NORTH OF MAQUOKETA. DEPUTY CHAD ROEDER CHARGED THE DRIVER, ZACHARY BROWN, AGE 18, OF MAQUOKETA WITH OPERATING A VEHICLE WHILE INTOXICATED, POSSESSION OF ALCOHOL UNDER AGE AND FAILURE TO MAINTAIN CONTROL. THE DEPUTY SAID BROWN LOST CONTROL OF HIS VEHICLE, IT WENT INTO THE DITCH, SKIDDED 114 FEET AND ROLLED ONCE. THE VEHICLE THEN LANDED ON ITS WHEELS AGAINST A TREE. BROWN REFUSED TREATMENT. HIS 2005 PONTIAC REGISTERED TO BARBARA MARTIN OF MAQUOKETA, WAS TOTALED.
