MAQUOKETA WAS A BIT QUIETER TODAY!

NICE TO PUT THE FLOOD BEHIND US!

IT WAS A BEAUTIFUL WEATHER DAY TOO!

MAYBE RAIN TOMORROW, BUT HOPEFULLY IT WILL NOT RAIN ON OUR
PARADE.

NO NEWS REPORT TODAY.

DENNIS VOY
TODAY, I DID "DEWITT CALLING" FROM "MARTHA'S CAFE" IN
DEWITT, CLOSING THIS SATURDAY AFTER 44 YEARS.
A POPULAR PLACE! SHE
AT RIGHT, IS RETIRING.
WHEN SHE STARTED, HAMBURGERS WERE 25 CENTS.
SHE HAS GONE IN AT 3 EACH MORNING TO BAKE PIES AND
THEN OPEN AT 5. NEVER MARRIED BUT HAD A LONGTIME
FRIEND WHO HELPED HER AND
DIED 3 YEARS AGO. ONE MORE PHOTO BELOW. HER BUILDING HAS BEEN SOLD AND WILL BE USED FOR SOME OTHER BUSINESS. "DEWITT CALLING" HAS BEEN ON-THE-AIR ON KMAQ-AM FOR AROUND 45 YEARS. AT FIRST, WAS DONE BY A LOCAL HOST RIGHT IN THE CITY. BUT I HAVE DONE IT AT THE STUDIO FOR AT
LEAST THE LAST 25 YEARS, MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY FROM 11:05 UNTIL 11:20 A.M. I KNOW AS MUCH ABOUT DEWITT AS MAQUOKETA, ALMOST. THE SHOW IS
NOT JUST FOR DEWITT, BUT ALSO FOR THE RURAL AREA OF CLINTON COUNTY AND THE SMALL TOWNS OF THE COUNTY.

THE PICTURES WERE ALREADY OFF THE WALLS AND THE
CAFE SUPPLIES WERE ON TABLES
FOR THE GOING-OUT-OF-BUSINESS SALE ALREADY
UNDERWAY. MARTHA IN BLUE WILL BE 71 IN SEPTEMBER.
HER SISTER IS TO HER LEFT.
IN THE WHITE CAP, RED HENTON.
RED WENT WITH ME AND
SANG A LITTLE SONG TO HER
ON THE SHOW. IN LEFT CORNER, IS L.R. ROEDER, A GOOD FRIEND
OF MARTHA'S CAFE AND THE
PERSON WHO SUGGESTED I DO
DEWITT CALLING THERE.
IT WAS FUN. RED AND I HAD A
CHEESEBURGER AND PIE AFTER....BOTH DELICIOUS. HAPPY RETIREMENT TO
MARTHA OF MARTHA'S CAFE, ACROSS FROM THE TOWER IN DOWNTOWN DEWITT.

BUICK VINTAGE CAR MEET IN AMES THIS WEEKEND. BILL AND
HELEN GELLERT OF FRANKLIN GROVE, ILLINOIS ARE SHOWN
HERE WITH THEIR LIKE-NEW
1941 BUICK. NICE PEOPLE!
BILL OPENED UP THE HOOD SO
I COULD SEE THE POWER TRAIN. SEE BELOW. CLICK-ON PHOTOS TO ENLARGE THEM.
