ELECTION  DAY IS GETTING CLOSE!    AND YARD SIGNS ARE HERE.    ABOVE,
BOTH BIG AND SMALL ONES ON WEST PLATT STREET.    HAVE NEVER SEEN
THE BIG ONES ON FRONT YARDS BEFORE.
THE DEMOCRATS HEADQUARTERS!   NO REPUBLICAN HEADQUARTERS THIS
YEAR!  THE BIG RACE IN JACKSON COUNTY WILL BE THE "SHERIFFS" RACE.


"PECULIAR CHILDREN" STARTS TOMORROW NIGHT NATIONWIDE AND AT THE
VOY TRIPLEX MOVIE.   IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE #1 MOVIE OF THE WEEKEND
AROUND THE COUNTRY.
"MASTERMINDS" ALSO STARTS NATIONWIDE AND  AT THE VOY TRIPLEX
THEATRE IN MAQUOKETA FRIDAY NIGHT.   IT WILL PROBABLY BE THE #2
WEEKEND MOVIE IN AMERICA.
"STORKS" IS BEING HELD OVER (GOOD FAMILY AND KIDS MOVIE) AT THE
VOY THEATRE.


TONIGHT AT THE BRADY STREET STADIUM IN DAVENPORT, ASSUMPTION
HOSTS MAQUOKETA.   MATT CLARK WILL  HAVE THE GAME AT 7:20 TONIGHT
ON KMAQ AM-FM AND OUR HOME WEB PAGE.

WEDNESDAY DAILY

PPP HIT IN 2012...ON GOLDEN POND


THIS IS THE STAGE AT THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST CHURCH UP ON THE HILL IN MAQUOKETA.     HERE IS WHERE YOU CAN DROP OFF ITEMS FOR
THE RESIDENTS IMPACTED BY THE FLOODED CEDAR RIVER IN CEDAR COUNTY.    THE HOPE IS TO FILL MANY 5-GALLON BUCKETS WITH NEEDED ITEMS, LIKE LIQUID LAUNDRY DETERGENT, DISH SOAP, SCRUB BRUSHES,
SPONGES, TRASH BAGS, GLOVES, ETC.      TAKE THE ITEMS TO THE
CHURCH BY NOON FRIDAY AND THEY WILL BE TAKEN SOON AFTER TO
THE FLOODED AREA.     THE CHURCH IS OPEN 8:30 A.M. UNTIL 3:00 P.M.
USE THE THE "LOADING" DOOR OFF THE DRIVE-WAY AT THE EAST SIDE
OF THE CHURCH.

NEW NAME FOR THE BEAUTIFUL,  LARGE MATTRESS & MORE STORE ON
THE CORNER OF EAST PLATT AND NORTH OTTO STREETS IN DOWNTOWN
MAQUOKETA.
THERE ARE 9 "HOMETOWN" STORES IN WISCONSIN AND IOWA, WITH
HEADQUARTERS IN PLATTVILLE.   THE NEWEST (#9) OPENING THIS WEEKEND
AT THE WEST SIDE OF CLINTON.
THAT'S ANGIE!   NOTICE, HEADBOARDS ARE AVAILABLE.   HER HUSBAND
IS THE MANAGER OF THE NEW CLINTON STORE AND THEY  LIVE IN
MAQUOKETA, A COUPLE BLOCKS FROM THE STORE.   THEY HAVE NO
CHILDREN.   THEY CARRY MID AMERICA BEDDING, ALSO EASTMAN HOUSE,
AND ENGLANDER BEDDING PLUS COASTER FINE FURNITURE AND MED-LIFT
CHAIRS.    FURNITURE SHOP AND ORDER FROM THEIR CATALOG, BUT
MED-LIFT CHAIRS ARE IN STOCK.
HOMETOWN MATTRESS & MORE  IS OPEN MONDAY THROUGH SATURDAY FROM 9 A.M. UNTIL 6  P.M. AND SUNDAYS, FROM NOON
UNTIL 5 P.M.  STOP IN AND MEET ANGIE AND TAKE A TOUR OF THE STORE!


THIS AFTERNOON AT 3 THE GOT THE BIG PAVER IN PLACE TO POUR THE
CONCRETE ON EAST PLEASANT STREET.

MONDAY DAILY REPORT

THE BARN TOUR WAS HELD THIS WEEKEND.   I TRY TO VISIT A DIFFERENT
ONE EACH YEAR.    THIS ONE ON 450TH AVENUE, RURAL PRESTON, IS OWNED
BY STEVE AND DORIS TRENKAMP.    GO EAST OUT OF PRESTON, AND
45TH AVENUE IS THE FIRST PAVED ROAD ON THE RIGHT AND THE
TRENKAMP FARM IS A HALF-MILE ON THE ROAD, PAST THE CEMETERY
WITH NO NAME ON IT.  THE BARN WAS BUILDT IN 1926 AND LOOKS GOOD FOR
BEING 90 YEARS OLD.  METAL ROOF REPLACED THE OLD A FEW YEARS AGO
AND THE UPPER PART OF BARN IS BIG AND EMPTY.    DORIS HAS FLOWERS
ALL OVER THE  YARD....A PRETTY FARM.    AND JUST OVER THE HILL
TO THE SOUTH...THIS SIGN ALONG THE ROAD.....

 DRIVE A SHORT GRAVEL ROAD, AND THERE IS DALTON POND....
GOOD LITTLE FISHING POND.

WE THEN LEFT 450TH AVENUE AND HEADED FOR THE ANDREW PARK AND THE ANDREW LIONS ANNUAL CHILI COOKOFF.     IT GETS BIGGER EVERY YEAR.    THE WINNERS OF THE CHILI COOK-OFF WERE AGAIN JERRY 
McMURRAY AND ROGER MICHELS.    THE PIE CONTEST:   1ST PLACE TO LINDA DRAKE, 2ND PLACE TO ALVELDA BAHR AND 3RD PLACE TO LINDA DUHME.
I DIDN'T KNOW THERE WAS A PIE CONTEST.     BUT I DID PARTICIPATE IN
THE CHILE JUDGING.    I SAMPLED 6 KINDS, VOTED FOR CHILI MARKED #5.....HAD A HOTDOG AND A PIECE OF HOMEMADE BERRY PIE AFTER.

FROM ANDREW, TO ST. DONATUS..... AND THE ANNUAL JACKSON COUNTY DEMOCRATS "HALL OF FAME" DINNER AT KALMES RESTAURANT.
AFTER ONE OF WINDY'S RIBEYE STEAKS OFF HIS BIG OUTSIDE GRILL,
THE PROGRAM BEGAN.     ABOVE, AT LEFT, FORMER SENATOR ROGER STEWART WITH ASHER SCHROEDER OF MAQUOKETA, HOLDING
THE  PLAQUE ROGER PRESENTED TO HIM FOR BEING ONE OF THE
TWO NEW HALL OF FAME MEMBERS.     ASHER WAS IN WWII, WOUNDED IN ACTION AND A PRISONER OF WAR FOR 6 MONTHS.   HE GOT A HERO  STANDING OVATION YESTERDAY.   ASHER, 90-PLUS YEARS, IS RETIRED  AND LIVES  IN HIS HOME ON NILES STREET IN MAQUOKETA.   HE GOT HIS LAW DEGREE AT IOWA, WAS THE JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FOR 3 TERMS IN THE 50'S, WORKED AS LEGAL COUNCIL FOR THE IOWA D.O.T. FOR 10 YEARS AND THEN WAS APPOINTED BY PRESIDENT JOHNSON TO BE THE  U.S. ATTORNEY FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA.    HE HAD  A LEGAL
CAREER SPANNING 37 YEARS. 
DAVID KUNZWEILER OF BELLEVUE, COUNTY DEMOCRATIC CHAIRMAN FOR AROUND 15 YEARS AND STILL CHAIRMAN, WAS THE OTHER DEMOCRAT INDUCTED INTO THE HALL OF FAME.   FULL HOUSE FOR THE EVENT, WITH
MANY CANDIDATES PRESENT.
THAT'S ASHER AFTER HIS APPOINTMENT BY PRESIDENT JOHNSON.   


THE "LADY AND THE TRACTOR".   BOTH BORN IN THE SAME YEAR.  THE TRACTOR SURE DOESN'T LOOK 80.

LOOKS LIKE THE GAME OF THE YEAR FOR BOTH WILL BE ON OCTOBER
7TH WHEN THE CARDINALS HOST THE SABERS.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINALS PLAY AT MARION TONIGHT.    MATT CLARK WILL
HAVE THE GAME ON KMAQ AND OUR HOME WEB PAGE AROUND 7:20.

HAPPY JOE'S IN MAQUOKETA WAS CLOSED YESTERDAY BUT IS
OPEN TODAY.    OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY, SOMEONE GOT INTO
THE BUILDING, GOT THE SAFE OPEN WITH SOME SORT OF TORCH
 AND GOT AWAY WITH AN UNDETERMINED AMOUNT OF MONEY. 

THE  MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST INSTALLATION BANQUET WAS HELD WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT THE EAGLES CLUB.   ABOVE, OUTGOING PRESIDENT GLENN SHORT
PRESENTED THE PLAQUE TO JUDY  BICKFORD FOR BEING NAMED "OPTIMIST OF THE YEAR".   SHE IS THE CLUB'S SECRETARY.
THE NEW OFFICERS FOR 2016-2017 ARE:   LEFT TO RIGHT:  PRESIDENT 
ELECT FOR 2017-2018, JESS WAGNER.       CAROL HAMMILL, TREASURER.
AST. LT. GOVERNOR CATHY SCHLICKMAN FOR ZONE 10.    NEW PRESIDENT
JANE SCHMIDT AND JUDY BICKFORD.
THE CLUB BOARD:  FRONT ROW, LEFT TO RIGHT:  LOIS FISCHER, JUDY BICKFORD, JANE SCHMIDT.
BACK ROW:  DAVID HAYES, DARLENE HAYES, CAROL HAMMILL, JIM REGENWETHER AND JESS WAGNER.
THE OPTIMIST ARE FAMOUS FOR PUTTING  UP AROUND TOWN 600 U.S. FLAGS EVERY PATRIOTIC HOLIDAY.

PLAYERS.

THE IOWA FARM BUREAU ENVIRONMENTAL LEADER AWARD RECOGNIZES IOWA FARMERS AS ENVIRONMENTAL LEADERS WHO TAKE EXEMPLARY VOLUNTARY ACTIONS TO BUILD HEALTHY SOILS AND IMPROVED WATER QUALITY.   THIS IS THE 5TH YEAR FOR THE PROGRAM AND TO DATE MORE 
THAN 400 FAMILIES HAVE RECEIVED RECOGNITION.
IN ABOVE PHOTO, RICHARD AND VALITA BRADLEY OF ZWINGLE ARE AMONG
THIS YEARS WINNERS.      IN THE TOP PHOTO, DAVID AND ANGIE BURMAHL OF BALDWIN, ALSO RECEIVED THE AWARD AND ACCEPTED IT FROM
GOV. TERRY BRANSTAD. 


BELOW, ANOTHER PPP HIT .. 2007 .. A CHRISTMAS STORY

HAPPY JOE'S IN MAQUOKETA WAS CLOSED ALL DAY AND WILL BE CLOSED
TONIGHT.   OVERNIGHT, RUMOR HAS IT, THERE WAS A ROBBERY AT THE RESTAURANT OR APPARENT ROBBERY.   THE POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL SAY ONLY THAT THERE IS AN INVESTIGATION GOING ON.    THERE WERE SEVERAL
PATROL CARS THERE YET LATE THIS MORNING AND EARLY THIS AFTERNOON, A POLICE CAR BLOCKED THE ENTRANCE.   FRUSTRATING
WHEN LAW ENFORCEMENT WILL NOT RELEASE INFORMATION TO THE 
MEDIA.

 

TOOK THIS PHOTO LATE THIS AFTERNOON AT THE CORNER OF MAIN AND
MAPLE.  THIS IS WHERE THE STREETSCAPE ENDS.   ON DECEMBER 1ST,
THIS INTERSECTION WILL BE OPEN AGAIN AND THE 9 MONTH PROJECT
WILL BE DONE.

HALL AND BELOW IS THE KMAQ NEWS STORY ABOUT IT.
