HOT AND HUMID TODAY....94
THE REST OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND WILL BE IN THE 80'S AND NO RAIN.

GOT GAS AT BOWMAN STANDARD TODAY AND TALKED TO HUGH BOWMAN.
HUGH HUNG IT UP! HE HUNG UP THE GAS NOZZLE FOR THE LAST TIME
YESTERDAY. HIS SON BILL, WAS 50% OWNER AND HUGH SOLD THE OTHER HALF OF THE BUSINESS TO BILL. AND SO...HUGH IS NOW OFFICIALLY
RETIRED. HE HAS BEEN PUMPING GAS 52 YEARS. LIKES TO PLAY
CARDS, SO WILL BE DOING MORE OF THAT.
BY THE WAY, GAS IN MAQUOKETA TODAY WAS AT 3.42.9 A GALLON.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL HAS STARTED CONDEMNATION PROCEEDSINGS
FOR LAND NEAR THE AIRPORT TO BE USED TO ALTER 134TH AVENUE SO
THE RUNWAY CAN BE EXTENDED. THE CITY HAS MADE AN OFFER TO THE
OWNERS OF THE LAND, ALLEN AND CAROLYN OLTMANNS, AND THAT OFFER WAS REJECTED. THE AMOUNT OF OFFER HAS NOT BEEN RELEASED.

FREE FIREWORKS AT THE HOSPITAL AT 9:15 TONIGHT AND FREE WHITEY'S
ICE CREAM TOO. COURTESY OF THE HOSPITAL.

LOTS OF EVENTS IN THE AREA THIS WEEKEND.
BELLEVUE HERITAGE DAYS TOMORROW AND SUNDAY. THE PARADE
AT 10:30 SUNDAY MORNING. IT HAS BEEN A YEAR SINCE THE TRAGIC
ACCIDENT DURING THEIR PARADE IN 2010.
DEWITT HAS A PARADE MONDAY MORNING AT 10.
LAMOTTE HAS A PARADE AND CELEBRATION ALL DAY MONDAY AT THE
DOWNTOWN PARK.
OXFORD JUNCTION WILL HAVE A CELEBRATION MONDAY TOO, WITH
FIREWORKS.
GRAND MOUND HAS A BIG FIREWORKS DISPLAY MONDAY NIGHT.

HAVE A SAFE AND FUN HOLIDAY WEEKEND.

THE NEW KMAQ-AM TRANSMITTER ARRIVED THIS MORNING! SHOWN WITH IT
IN THE FRONT OFFICE, IS
KMAQ ENGINEER TOM MESSERLI. IT'S AN ARMSTRONG (UP TO 1,000 WATS) AND WILL BE INSTALLED AT THE KMAQ TOWER SITE
ACROSS FROM THE BRIDGEPORT CEMETERY A COUPLE MILES NORTHEAST OF MAQUOKETA. IT WILL BE MOUNTED IN A RACK OUT THERE THIS WEEKEND BY TOM.
THE ONE IT WILL REPLACE, ABOUT 25 YEARS OLD (A HARRIS), IS ABOUT THE SIZE OF A SIDE-BY-SIDE REFRIGERATOR. QUITE A REDUCTION IN SIZE OVER THE YEARS. THIS ONE
WILL BE MORE ECONOMICAL USING LESS ELECTRICITY. THE SOUND SHOULD
BE BETTER AND IT SHOULD TAKE OUR SIGNAL OUT A LITTLE FARTHER TOO.
THE OLD ONE IS STILL OPERATING, BUT TOUCHY AND HARD TO FIND PARTS FOR.
I WILL LET YOU KNOW WHEN THE NEW ONE GOES "ON-THE-AIR".
CLICK-ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT!

(WILL TOM RUN FOR MAYOR AGAIN? WE SHOULD KNOW BEFORE THE END OF SUMMER! HE SERVED TWO 4 YEAR TERMS. DID A GOOD JOB!)
