THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK HAS ANNOUNCED ITS INTENT TO
INVEST $250,000 OVER A 5-YEAR PERIOD TO SUPPORT THE JOINT IOWA
PARK FOUNDATION AND STATE OF IOWA'S PARK TO PEOPLE PILOT REGION,
THE GRANT WOOD MISSISSIPPI RIVER REGION.    SAID DARYL PARKER,
JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION DIRECTOR AND PRESIDENT OF THE GRANT WOOD MISSISSIPPI RIVER REGION BOARD, "MAQUOKETA STATE BANK'S GENEROUS GIFT IS A BIG STEP FOR OUR REGION AS WE GO FORWARD TO IMPLEMENT OUR TWO-YEAR PLAN.   THE GIFT IS AN INVESTMENT IN MAQUOKETA AND OUR REGION".
SAID AL TUBBS, CHAIRMAN AND CEO OF OHNWARD BANCSHARES
(OWNER OF MAQUOKTA STATE BANK), "THIS IS A GREAT WAY TO BETTER THE QUALITY OF LIFE FOR OUR COMMUNITY AND REGION AS A WHOLE".
DAVE HEIAR, THE DIRECTOR OF THE JACKSON COUNTY ENCONOMIC
ALLIANCE SAID, "THIS REGIONAL EFFORT IS A REAL BOOST TO CREATING COMMUNITIES THAT ENTICE YOUNG FAMILIES TO WANT TO LIVE IN OUR
AREA.   NEW TRAILS AND INCREASED RECREATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES ARE VERY IMPORTANT ELEMENTS TO ASSURE LOCAL EMPLOYERS THAT WE CAN
ATTRACT THE WORKFORCE THEY NEED TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE".
THE $17 MILLION DOLLAR PROJECT OVERALL,  LOCALLY,  WILL BE INCLUDE
PROJECTS INCLUDING DEVELOPMENT OF MAQUOKETA'S NEW COUNTY
PARK AT THE EAST EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.

BOB HERRING, A SEVEN-YEAR EMPLOYEE OF MAQUOKETA'S HOSPITAL,
THIS SUNDAY TAKES OVER AS FACILITIES DIRECTOR AT THE HOSPITAL.
THE NEW TITLE ANNOUNCEMENT WAS MADE THIS WEEK BY HOSPITAL
C.E.O. CURT COLEMAN.    COLEMAN SAID HERRING HAS A STRONG PASSION FOR THE LOCAL HOSPITAL AND SAID HERRING HAS CONTINUALLY WORKED TO BUILD HIS KNOWLEDGE OF HOSPITAL OPERATIONS IN MANY DIFFERENT
AREAS.

THE NEW "DOLLAR TREE" STORE OPENED TODAY IN MAQUOKETA, IN THE BUILDING THAT WAS BUILDT FOR THE "FAMILY DOLLAR"  STORE CHAIN SEVERAL YEARS AGO.   THAT STORE CLOSED LAST YEAR AND THEN LATER,  "FAMILY DOLLAR" CORPORATION WAS SOLD TO "DOLLAR TREE" CORPORATION. 
"DOLLAR TREE" IS DIFFERENT FROM "FAMILY DOLLAR" BECAUSE ALL
THEIR MERCHANDISE IS PRICED AT A DOLLAR OR LESS.    THE NEW
STORE THAT OPENED TODAY WILL ALSO BE DIFFERENT THAN THE
LOCAL "DOLLAR GENERAL" STORE WHICH HAS A FULL LINE OF MERCHANDISE IN ALL PRICE RANGES.    IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA IS A $1-$2 STORE THAT COULD BE HURT BY THE NEW STORE THAT OPENED TODAY.    THE DOWNTOWN STORE IS OWNED PRIVATELY BY A HUSBAND AND WIFE THAT HAVE  SEVERAL STORES IN THE IOWA-ILLINOIS AREA.

MAQUOKETA BOYS PLAY AT WESTERN DUBUQUE IN EPWORTH TONIGHT.
THE CARDINALS WILL TRY TO BREAK A TWO-GAME LOOSING STREAK.

NANCY JO FOSTER, 69, DIED JANUARY 7TH.   HER FUNERAL WILL BE
ON JANUARY 22ND IN MARION.    SHE GRADUATED FROM MAQUOKETA HIGH
SCHOOL.    SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND, DAVID AND 8 SIBLINGS, INCLUDING DAVID CLARK OF MAQUOKETA.

"THE REVENANT" TODAY WAS NOMINATED FOR 12 ACADEMY AWARDS.
IT STARTS TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE VOY THEATRE.
