THURSDAY REPORT

 HEAT WAVE...35 TODAY.



TWO MAQUOKETA SERVICE CLUBS WORKED TOGETHER THIS MONTH TO HELP THE CHILDREN WHO ATTEND THE LOCAL HEADSTART PROGRAM IN MAQUOKETA.  THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMISTS AND THE MAQUOKETA LIONS PURCHASED A PAIR OF ATHLETIC SHOES AND A PACKAGE OF SOCKS.   PICTURED, A FEW OF THE CHILDREN AND KATE KRABBEHHOFT WHO REPRESENTED THE TWO CLUBS AT THE PRESENTATION.

TUESDAY REPORT

 TONIGHT..

WEATHER SERVICE PREDICTING 20 BELOW


SUNDAY I TOOK MY 3 GREAT GRAND KIDS TO THE NEW ICE CREAM

DERBY AT DELMAR, OWNED BY SCOTT DERBY ABOVE.     HE AND HIS

WIFE LAURA (BOOKKEEPER) OPENED THE STORE A FEW WEEKS AGO

AND IT IS GETTING VERY POPULAR.   NOTE THE OLD HUNDRED-YEAR-OLD

WAGON HE RESTORED.   HE AND HIS EMPLOYEE MARLA WILCOX 

OF HIGHWAY 136 NEAR DELMAR,  SERVE UP  HARD ICE CREAM AND OTHER GOOD

SPECIAL FOOD  ITEMS  FOR ALL  THE FAMILY.      NO PHONE BUT ORDERS CAN BE

PLACED ON-LINE  ON THE STORE FACEBOOK PAGE. 

SCOTT PLANS TO BUILD A MINIATURE GOLF COURSE  ON THE NORTH SIDE

OF THE STORE AND ADD A LARGE DINING ROOM TO THE REAR OF STORE

FOR MORE SEATING WHEN NEEDED AND PARTIES.   HOURS...


ACROSS THE STREET, SCOTT AND LAURA BOUGHT A PARTIALLY BURNED-OUT,

BAD APPEARING BUILDING AND COMPLETELY REMODELED IT INTO FOUR

MODERN APARTMENTS.    A ONE-BEDROOM,  2 TWO BEDROOM APARTMENTS  AND A 

THREE BEDROOM.   ALL RENTED.    AS A DELMAR BUSINESS OWNER (THE DRIVE-IN

IS OFFICIALLY IN DELMAR) I'M HAPPY TO SEE THE  PROGRESS BEING MADE YEARLY

AT DELMAR.     ENLARGED SCHOOL,  RAILROAD MUSEUM, VETERAN'S AREA NEXT

DOOR TO MUSEUM, THE NEW BASKETBALL COURT IN THE BIG CITY PARK,

THE NEW SPLASH PAD FOR SUMMER COOLING OFF, THE LARGE AND FULL SERVICE

APPLIANCE STORE (DR. APPLIANCE),  THE NEW CORNER BAR AND GRILL 

WITH LARGE DINING ROOM,  THE NEW APARTMENT BUILDING  AND THE NEW

ICE CREAM STORE (AND CAFE).      AND A GREAT SERVICE CLUB, THE DELMAR LIONS, 

DOING THEIR PART TO MAKE DELMAR WITH NICE CHURCHES,  A GOOD PLACE TO LIVE 

AND ENJOY LIFE.

 13 BELOW TOMORROW NIGHT IN MAQUOKETA!



ICE CREAM WARMS YOU UP!

TIME FOR A VISIT TO THE "ICE CREAM DERBY" IN DOWNTOWN DELMAR.

SOMEONE ASKED IF I HAD THEIR PHONE NUMBER AND HOURS THEY ARE OPEN.    HOPE TO GET ANSWER.


STILL NO WORD ON THE LOTTERY WINNER OF OVER $300,000.

BILL BOWMAN TOLD ME THIS AFTERNOON THAT IT IS NOT HIM.

ANOTHER TWO PHOTOS TAKEN SUNDAY AT THE NEW ICE CREAM  STORE
IN DELMAR.   NOTICE THE GMC CAR FRONT ABOVE 2 BOOTHS.
MORE PHOTOS COMING.   BUT REMEMBER...IT'S NOT JUST ICE CREAM,
BUT A GOOD MENU OF FOOD TOO.

MONDAY REPORT


ASHER SCHROEDER,  AGE 96,  DIED LAST MONDAY AT HIS HOME IN MAQUOKETA.

HE WAS A GREAT MAN!   HE WAS A  ROTARIAN (LONGTIME TREASURER).    I 

LAST SAW HIM AT A MEETING IN DECEMBER.   BORN AND RAISED IN MAQUOKETA,

HE GRADUATED AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL AND GOT HIS LAW DEGREE FROM

THE UNIVERSITY OF IOWA.    HE WAS DRAFTED INTO THE ARMY DURING WORLD 

WAR II AND WAS TAKEN AS A PRISONER OF WAR IN GERMANY.    AFTER RETURNING 

FROM THAT HARDSHIP IN THE SERVICE,  HE WAS A LAWYER IN MAQUOKETA.    HE

SERVED AS JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FOR 3 TERMS.     HE WAS  APPOINTED THE

U.S.  ATTORNEY FOR THE NORTHERN DISTRICT OF IOWA  AND WAS LATER  

LEGAL COUNCIL FOR THE IOWA D.O.T.     HE HELPED GET LOCAL OWNERSHIP

OF THE CLINTON ENGINES OFFICE BUILDING SO IT COULD BE TURNED INTO

THE MUSEUM IT IS NOW.      HE IS SURVIVED BY 3 SONS IN IOWA AND  A BROTHER 

KARL IN MAQUOKETA.   ALSO  A SISTER IN ARIZONA,  PLUS  3 GRANDCHILDREN.

THE FUNERAL WILL BE AT 10:30 THIS SATURDAY AT  SACRED HEART CATHOLIC 

CHURCH.   CARSON CELEBRATION OF LIFE IS SERVING THE FAMILY.    HE IS EASILY 

ONE OF THE TOP 100 CITIZENS OF ALL TIME IN MAQUOKETA.

OLD HOSPITAL SOLD, BUT NO CLOSING ON DEAL YET.

 $500,000    FOR SENIOR HOUSING AND

POSSIBLE BUSINESS VENTURES. 

BIDS WILL BE LET TUESDAY FOR NEW JAIL.
