TUESDAY DAILY

THE NEW TWO-LANE ROAD LEADING DOWN TO PRAIRIE CREEK WILL SOON GET A LOT OF TRAFFIC TO THE NEW BUILDING NOW UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
THIS ROAD, WITH ENTRANCE ON EAST SUMMIT STREET ACROSS FROM ALLIANCE PIPELINE IS CLOSED UNTIL THE BUILDING WITH  REST ROOMS IS COMPLETED.    MORE PICTURES AS I DRIVE IN.
THIS PHOTO STILL JUST A SHORT DISTANCE FROM WHERE I ENTERED ON EAST SUMMIT.
HERE THE ROAD CIRCLES THE SMALL LAKE.    NOTE UPPER LEFT, THE ROAD
HAS A SPUR TO THE SOUTH SIDE OF LAKE.
THERE IS A CULDESAC DOWN BELOW BY THE NEW $125,000 BUILDING UNDER CONSTRUCTION.
AFTER TURNING AROUND TO EXIT AREA, ANOTHER SHOT OF THE LAKE
FROM A DIFFERENT DIRECTION.
AGAIN...DRIVING BACK OUT OF AREA TOWARD THE EXIT ON THE HILL.  THE LATE BOB MARTIN OF MAQUOKETA WOULD BE SURPRISED AND HAPPY TO
SEE  HOW THE FARM HE GAVE TO THE COUNTY IS DEVELOPING INTO A
GREAT RECREATIONAL SPOT.

TODAY IS SET-UP DAY FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR WHICH STARTS TOMORROW.
KEEP AMERICA (AND THE FAIR) BEAUTIFUL!   OVER 100 OF THESE BARRELLS WERE PLACED ON THE GROUNDS AND CAMPING AREA.

WHEN AT THE FAIR, LOOK FOR THIS DISPLAY THAT TELLS ABOUT THE
NEW  EXTENTION BUILDING PLANNED FOR ON THE FAIRGROUNDS.    WHEN
COMPLETED, THE EXTENSION OFFICE WILL MOVE FROM THE COURTHOUSE
BASEMENT.

THE RV PARK IS GETTING FULL NORTH OF THE FAIRGROUNDS.

ANOTHER 25 STORAGE UNITS HAVE JUST BEEN FINISHED AT DOC'S  ON NORTH OTTO STREET AT THE NORTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.    YOU CAN
SEE THE OLDER BUILDING JUST BEHIND THE NEW, WHICH OPENED A COUPLE YEARS AGO.   IT ALSO HAS 25 UNITS.    I BET MAQUOKETA HAS
OVER 400 RENTAL STORAGE PLACES LIKE THIS OR LARGER.    LAST YEAR, SOME WERE BUILDT  WHERE THE LAZY J MOTEL WAS.   JUST THINK, THESE
UNITS COULD BE STORING OVER A MILLION DOLLARS WORTH OF ITEMS
PEOPLE DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH.    DOC....LOOKS LIKE THERE IS
ROOM FOR A THIRD UNIT BELOW THE NEW ONE.

FIVE BUSINESS PLACES HAVE APPARENTLY CLOSED THIS MONTH IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA.   ABOVE, "FORTE COFFEE" HAD BEEN OPEN ABOUT 2 YEARS,   NEXT TO BOB'S BARBER SHOP AND ACROSS FROM  THE THEATRE.
ABOVE, SIGN SAYS..."GOING OUT OF BUSINESS SALE".   IT WAS CLOSED TODAY.
IT IS AT CORNER OF SOUTH MAIN AND PLEASANT.
THIS LUNCH PLACE WAS OPEN ONLY A SHORT TIME, ACROSS FROM THE
GREEN SPACE ON EAST PLEASANT.
THE ABOVE BEAUTY SHOP HAS NOT BEEN OPEN FOR WEEKS

THIS MATTRESS PLACE IS EMPTY.   ON EAST PLATT.   IT OPENED AROUND TWO YEARS AGO.    SHORTLY AFTER IT OPENED, ANOTHER MATTRESS
PLACE OPENED ON WESTGATE DRIVE AND IS STILL OPEN.    MAYBE TWO
IN OUR TOWN IS TOO MANY.
COUPLE NOTES:   ALL ABOVE HAD TO PUT UP WITH THE STREETSCAPE
DOWNTOWN CONSTRUCTION PROJECT LAST YEAR.   YES, THAT HURT SALES
FOR MANY BUSINESS PLACES.
AND...ALL ABOVE DID LITTLE OR NO ADVERTISING.    KMAQ WOULDN'T BE
CELEBRATING ITS 59TH BIRTDAY NEXT MONTH, IF ALL BUSINESS OWNERS
DECIDED ADVERTISING WAS NOT NECESSARY.
