THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB SCHOLAR DINNER WAS HELD LAST NIGHT
AT THE METHODIST CHURCH IN MAQUOKETA, HONORING THE TOP 20 SENIORS AT MCHS.   THE WELCOME WAS GIVEN BY ROTARIAN KIM HUCKSTADT, CHAIRMAN
OF THE EVENT.   ROTARIANS JOHN GILROY AND FLORIAN STEFFEN READ THE HIGHLIGHTS AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS OF THE STUDENTS.    THE 20 STUDENTS

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 20 MCHS SENIORS.    THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY HAS
SPONSORED  THIS SCHOLAR DINNER EVERY YEAR FOR AROUND 50 YEARS.

THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA HAS RECEIVED A COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT TO ASSIST IN RENOVATING HOMES IN THE CITY,.    CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNER
SAID THE CITY WILL RECEIVE $423,988 WHICH WILL BE USED TO REHAB 12 FAMILY
OWNER-OCCUPIED HOMES.

THE MAQUOKETA MEN'S BOWLING ASSOCIATION ANNUAL DINNER AND AWARDS NIGHT WAS HELD LAST NIGHT AT THE EAGLES CLUB.     OVER 50 WERE IN ATTENDANCE FROM MAQUOKETA AND FROM OTHER NEARBY CITY ASSOCIATIONS, INCLUDING DEWITT, DUBUQUE, CLINTON AND BELLEVUE.     AFTER DINNER, IT WAS AWARDS TIME.    PHOTOS BELOW OF THE WINNERS.     IN THIS PHOTO.....FRONT LEFT,  ASSOCIATION PRESIDENT JEFF TURNEY, A LONGTIME BOWLER AND EMPLOYEE AT WAL MART.   HE WAS THE EMCEE.     FRONT RIGHT, GARY JONES, OF MAQUOKETA,
THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION.     BACK LEFT, JOHN DAEHLER, THE
MANAGER OF THE ASSOCIATION.    ONE OF HIS BIG JOBS IS TO RUN THE CITY
TOURNAMENT, WON THIS YEAR BY WAUGH TIRE'S TEAM WITH A SCORE OF
3,293.       BACK RIGHT, LOUIE CLAUSSEN, OWNER AND MANAGER OF TIMBER LANES AND ONE OF MAQUOKETA'S BEST BOWLERS.   THIS IS LOUIE'S 20TH YEAR AT TIMBER LANES AS OWNER.   HE STARTED THE NEW LANES 20 YEARS AGO AND IS HAVING A CELEBRATION OPEN TO THE PUBLIC ON AUGUST 6TH.   I THINK HE HAS ROLLED AROUND A DOZEN 300 GAMES.      CLICK-ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.

SHOWN HERE AT LAST NIGHT'S DINNER, AT LEFT, TOM BODKIN, LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BOWLER WHO WAS NAMED A LIFETIME HONORARY MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA MEN'S BOWLING ASSOCIATION.    HIS PLAQUE PRESENTED BY THE NEW PRESIDENT OF THE ASSOCIATION, GARY JONES OF MAQUOKETA.      BODKIN, A 1958 MCHS GRADUATE,
WAS JOINED AT THE BANQUET LAST NIGHT BY  '58 CLASSMATE JAKE BICKFORD,
ANOTHER LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BOWLER.     LIKE IN THE PAST, A HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY YESTERDAY FOR SOME, WAS THE ANNUAL GOLF TOURNANMENT AND JAKE
WAS IN CHARGE.   BUT, BECAUSE OF THE RAIN, THERE WAS LIMITED PLAY AND
NO LOW SCORE AWARDS WERE PRESENTED.

MAQUOKETA BOWLER AL MOHR (LEFT), WAS NAMED SPONSOR OF THE YEAR FOR HIS
BUSINESS, BARRON MOTOR SUPPLY ON EAST PLATT STREET IN MAQUOKETA.

LONGTIME MAQUOKETA BOWLER, MARV JORGENSEN, LEFT, WAS CONGRATULATED BY JOHN DAEHLER, AFTER BEING NAMED TO THE MAQUOKETA MEN'S BOWLING ASSOCIATION HALL OF FAME.    MARV, AROUND 80, IS STILL BOWLING.    HIS WIFE
GLORIA WON THE FLOWER CENTERPIECE.      ALL ENJOYED THE RIBEYE STEAK
DINNER, PREPARED AND SERVED BY THE EAGLE'S  LADIES AUXILIARY.     THE
DINNER WAS DELICIOUS.    JACK MARLOWE, RETIRED SPORT'S EDITOR OF THE
MAQUOKETA SENTINAL-PRESS AND I WERE INVITED GUESTS AND RECOGNIZED
FOR OUR COVERAGE AND SUPPORT OF BOWLING IN MAQUOKETA.
