THEY HAVE REALLY HAD A BUSY WEEK WORKING ON GETTING THE LAND  READY FOR THE NEW HOUSING DEVELOPMENT IN MAQUOKETA, ON THE CORNER OF WESTERN AVENUE AND WEST SUMMIT, WHICH WAS ONCE  PART OF THE BIG TUBBS APPLE ORCHARD.    TO THE LEFT STOOD A HOME AND HUNDREDS OF TREES HAVE BEEN TAKEN OUT BEHIND THE MIDDLE TREE AND TO THE NORTH FOR ABOUT 2 BLOCKS.    ON THIS BIG PARCEL, A MONTICELLO PERSON OR FIRM WILL SELL LOTS OR BUILD HOMES.    CLOSE TO 30 MODERATELY PRICED HOMES.     A STREET, CURBS AND GUTTERS AND WATER AND SEWER PIPES COME FIRST.

DECIDED TO GO FOR DINNER LAST NIGHGT AT BLUFF  LAKE, BUT
SINCE THEY WERE SO BUSY, AND ONLY PARKING SPACES OPEN WERE UP
THE HILL (TOO MUCH OF A WALK FOR US) WE DECIDED TO COME
BACK ANOTHER TIME AND SEE THE NEW LOOK AND EXPANSION.
WOULD BE NICE OF BLUFF LAKE HAD A GOLF CART TO TAKE OLD FOLKS
LIKE US DOWN AND  UP THE HILL TO THE FRONT DOOR.

SO..HEARD THERE WAS A NEW MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN
WYOMING AND HEADED THAT WAY ON HIWAY 136.
IT IS ON THE CORNER, DOWNTOWN, AND TWO BUILDINGS
REMODELED TO ESTABLISH IT.   OPENED LAST THANKSGIVING.
TWO PHOTOS ABOVE.    THE MAIN KITCHEN, BAR AND DINING
ROOM ABOVE AND THE SECOND ROOM (BELOW) FOR BUSY NIGHTS
OVERFLOW AND PARTIES.    A WIDE DOORWAY BETWEEN.

A HOUSE GOES DOWN IN MAQUOKETA TODAY!

THIS HOUSE WAS TAKEN DOWN TODAY,  AT THE CORNER OF WESTERN AVENUE
AMD WEST SUMMIT STREET.    THE RANCH HOME HAS NOT BEEN LIVED IN
FOR YEARS.   WHEN I CAME TO TOWN IN 1958 IT WAS THE  HOME OF RAY KROEGER
AND HIS WIFE AND SON.     TO THE NORTH IS WHERE PART OF THE  BIG TUBB'S APPLE ORCHARD WAS LOCATED.    THE HOUSE AND PROPERTY,  OWNED BY THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA, WILL BE THE LOCATION OF A NEW STREET.      AN OUT OF TOWN FIRM
IS  BUYING THE PROPERTY FROM THE CITY AND NEARLY 30 BUILDING LOTS WILL
BE AVAILABLE.
MY MEMORY IS NOT PERFECT ON THE KROEGER'S BUT I THINK RAY OWNED
A SALE BARN,  MAYBE OWNED SOME RACE HORSES AND WAS ACTIVE FOR MANY
YEARS ON THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR BOARD.

CLICK-ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.

AND THANKS TO THE NEARLY 500 PEOPLE THAT BROUGHT UP THIS WEB SITE OVER THE
