TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

SHOOTING TODAY IN MAQUOKETA...WELL KNOWN MAQUOKETAN KILLED WITH HIS OWN GUN.   READ STORY BELOW THIS DAILY REPORT.

IT WAS A PT. SUNNY DAY TODAY AFTER OVER A  HALF-INCH OF RAIN
EARLY THIS MORNING.   MORE RAIN TONIGHT, 2 OR 3 INCHES.
TOMORROW, RAIN IN THE MORNING AND A  HIGH OF 76.
LOOKING AHEAD, FOOTBALL FRIDAY, A HIGH OF ONLY 56.  

THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD MET LAST NIGHT AND ARE CONSIDERING
A CONTRACT WITH A PHYSICAL THERAPY GROUP TO ACT AS ATHLETIC
TRAINERS FOR THE DISTRICT.    LAST NIGHT, TOM GRUENWALD, THE DISTRICT'S NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTOR SAID WHEN HE WAS HIRED,HE WAS SURPRISED THE DISTRICT DID NOT HAVE AN ATHLETIC TRAINER.
HE SAID MAQUOKETA IS THE ONLY SCHOOL IN THE SPORTS CONFERENCE
WHICH DOES NOT OFFER A TRAINER AT  HOME EVENTS OR PRICTICE
EVENTS.   THE BOARD ASKED HIM TO GET SOME QUOTES.  HE SAID IN
SOME DISTRICTS, THE COST CAN BE 6 TO 8 THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR.
ONE IS PAYING $14,000.

MAQUOKETA PLAYS WESTERN DUBUQUE AT GOODENOW FIELD THIS
FRIDAY NIGHT.
IOWA PLAYS IOWA STATE THIS SATURDAY AT AMES.

SHOOTING IN MAQUOKETA

I WENT TO THE PRESS CONFERENCE AT 1 P.M. TODAY OUTSIDE THE JACKSON COUNTY COURTHOUSE IN MAQUOKETA, CALLED BY JACKSON COUNTY SHERIFF RUSS KETTMANN AND MAQUOKETA POLICE CHIEF BRAD KORANDA.

GUS GLASER WAS MAQUOKETA CITY MANAGER FROM 1994 TO 1997.   HE
LEFT HERE TO GO TO TIPTON TO BE CITY MANAGER THERE.
HE HAS BEEN BACK IN MAQUOKETA, RETIRED, FOR QUITE A FEW YEARS.
HE OWNED 2 HOMES IN THE SWAGOSA SUBDIVISION, ONE VERY LARGE AND
A SMALLER ONE THAT HE RENTED.   AT ONE TIME, HE OWNED A HOME
IN WASHINGTON D.C.       FOR A FEW  YEARS, HE WAS A MEMBER OF THE
MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB AND ABOUT 4 YEARS AGO HELD A CHRISTMAS
PARTY AT THE LARGE HOME WHERE HE LIVED.   I AM A ROTARIAN AND WAS THERE.     I REMEBER, THE HOME WAS "CLUTTERED" WITH ALL KINDS OF "THINGS".   HE LEFT ROTARY ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO.   HE WAS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE BELLEVUE ROTARY CLUB FOR A SHORT TIME.    GUS WOULD VISIT KMAQ OFTEN AS HE PURCHASED LOTS OF CERTIFICATES ON KMAQ'S AUCTION SHOW.    HE WAS IN JUST YESTERDAY TO INQUIRE ABOUT
BUYING SOME POLITICAL SPOTS FOR A CANDIDATE RUNNING IN THIS AREA.
GUS WAS BORN SEPTEMBER 27,1942.     HE ATTENDED IOWA STATE
UNIVERSITY, GETTING BA DEGREE.   LATER GOT A MASTER'S DEGREE.    IN 1964 HE BECAME A MEMBER OF THE IOWA AIR GUARD IN DES MOINES AND ATTENDED VARIOUS AIRFORCE SCHOOLS.    IN THE AIRFORCE,  HE FLEW FIGHTER PLANES AND ACHIEVED THE RANK OF LIEUTENANT COLONEL IN 1984.   GUS NEVER MARRIED.   HIS MOTHER WAS MARGARET AND SHE WAS QUITE ACTIVE IN MAQUOKETA... A MEMBER OF THE UNITED CHURCH OF CHRIST,  THE PYTHIAN SISTERS AND THE DAUGHTERS OF THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.     HIS FATHER WAS AUBREY GLASER  (HE WAS A FARMER, WORKED ALSO AT ONE TIME AT CLINTON ENGINES  AND WAS A CARPENTER  TOO) AND HE DIED IN 1980.   GUS AND HIS MOTHER TRAVELED TOGETHER A LOT, INCLUDING TO LONDON, ENGLAND  AND WASHINGTON D.C.
