WELL...WE GOT SOME RAIN TODAY AS EXPECTED.
AND IT GOT UP TO 42....NOT QUITE AS WARM AS EXPECTED.
NOW, WE ARE EXPECTING COLD WEATHER FOR THE REST OF THE WEEKEND.

A VEHICLE WAS STOLEN FROM BRAD DEERY MOTORS THIS WEEK.
TWO GUYS TOOK A 2006 DODGE CHARGER MONDAY AFTERNOON FOR A TEST DRIVE AND NEVER RETURNED.
AND, A VEHICLE REPORTED STOLEN IN DUBUQUE COUNTY WAS FOUND IN ANDREW THURSDAY AFTERNOON.

ALDI'S FOOD STORE CLOSED TODAY AS SCHEDULED. LEFT-OVER MERCHANDISE
GOES TO THE CLINTON STORE. AND, WORD HAS IT THAT SOMEONE WILL BE
MOVING INTO THE BUILDING AND THAT MAQUOKETA WILL BE HAPPY WITH
THE NEW BUSINESS. I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT IT WILL BE. WE WILL JUST HAVE TO WAIT. I'LL LET YOU KNOW WHEN I FIND OUT SOMETHING.

HIGH TODAY, 31.
STILL LOOKING FOR RAIN TOMORROW AND FRIDAY. WE COULD
REACH 50 FRIDAY, BUT THEN DOWN TO THE HIGH TEENS AGAIN SATURDAY.

TWO VEHICLES COLLIDED AT ARCADE AND HIGHWAY 64 JUST AFTER NOON
YESTERDAY. TODD HILL, AGE 49, OF MAQUOKETA WAS DRIVING EAST ON 64 AND WAS STOPPED WAITING FOR ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE OTHER DRIVER,
JIMMY GARLOUGH, 65, OF WHEATLAND, PULLED ON TO 64 FROM ARCADE AND
HIT THE HILL VEHICLE ON DRIVER'S SIDE. GARLOUGH WAS CHARGED.
$2,000 DAMAGE TO EACH VEHICLE, A 91 CHEVY TRUCK AND A 2006 CHEVY CAR.
NO INJURIES.

ERIC THOME HIT A DEER LAST NIGHT ON HIGHWAY 62 AND BEN SHEARER HIT
ALSO HIT A DEER LAST NIGHT ON HIGHWAY 64.
NO INJURIES.

GOV. CHET CULVER HAS SENT A LETTER TO SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE TOM VILSACK (FORMER IOWA GOVERNOR) ASKING FOR A DISASTER DESIGNATION
FOR EIGHT COUNTIES, INCLUDING JACKSON. ALL 8 COUNTIES HAVE DOCUMENTED 30-PERCENT LOSSES OF ONE CROP AFTER POSTING HARVEST EVALUATIONS.

SUNNY DAY TODAY AND HIGH OF 21.

THE JACKSON COUNTY CONSERVATION BOARD THIS MORNING REINSTATED FULL DUTIES TO THEIR DIRECTOR, DARYL PARKER , AFTER FELONY CHILD ABUSE CHARGES AGINST HIM WERE DISMISSED IN WISCONSIN LAST WEEK. PARKER, WHO LIVES IN BELLEVUE, HAD PLEADED NOT GUILTY TO THE CHARGES IN JULY AFTER HE
WAS ACCUSED FOR KICKING A TEENAGE BOY AND SHOVING ANOTHER DURING A GAME OF LASER TAG AT A WISCONSIN RESORT. SOON AFTER, THE BOARD PUT HIM ON PAID ADMINISTRATIVE LEAVE AND ORDERED HIM TO RELINQUISH HIS GUN AND BADGE.
HE HAS BEEN WORKING SINCE DOING HIS NORMAL DUTIES, BUT NOT HIS LAW
ENFORCEMENT DUTIES.
AND ALSO TODAY, THE SUPERVISORS APPOINTED ONE OF THEIR MEMBERS TO FILL THE OPENING ON THE CONSERVATION BOARD NOW HELD BY ROGER SCHLADESKY.
STATE LAW ALLOWS A SUPERVISOR TO SERVE ON THE CONSERVATION BOARD AS A FULL VOTING MEMBER. FLYNN WILL BEGIN HIS SIX-YEAR TERM ON THE FIVE-MEMEBER BOARD IN JANUARY. THE SUPERVISORS HAD NOT HEARD FROM SCHLADESKY AND ASSUMED HE WAS NOT INTERESTED IN REAPPOINTMENT CONSIDERATION.
THERE WAS ONE OTHER APPLICANT FOR THE OPENING.

A MAQUOKETA RESIDENT WAS HIT WHILE CROSSING A STREET IN MAQUOKETA
AROUND 6:45 LAST NIGHT. ZACHARY CARR WAS CROSSING THE STREET AT THE
INTERSECTION OF MAIN AND PLEASANT WHEN HE WAS STRUCK BY A GREEN
CAR DRIVEN BY A MAN. THE DRIVER STOPPED LONG ENOUGH TO ASK IF HE WAS OKAY AND THEN LEFT THE SCENE. CARR WAS LATER TAKEN TO THE EMERGENCY ROOM AT THE HOSPITAL IN MAQUOKETA BY HIS MOTHER, WHERE HE WAS
EXAMINED.

THE CITY OF BELLEVUE HAS A JOB OPEN TO REPLACE THE A SANITATION AND
PARKS WORKER WHO IS RETIRING. THERE WERE 24 APPLICATIONS FOR
THE JOB. CITY ADMINISTRATOR LORAS HERRIG CALLED IT A REFLECTION
OF THE STATE OF THE ECONOMY.

FIRST WINTER THAT KMAQ WAS ON-THE-AIR. IT WAS A COLD AND SNOWY
WINTER. JEFF SAID TODAY HE REMEMBERS THE BOB FELLER DAYS OF BASEBALL.
JEFF LIVES IN HIS HOUSE NEAR WORK AND WHEN AT COFFEE AFTERNOONS, IT
IS ALWAYS FUN VISITING A BIT WITH JEFF. NEEDLESS TO SAY, DURING THE

ARE TOP PRIORITIES. MONEY FROM THE LOCAL OPTION SALES TAX IS AVAILABLE TO DO THE REPAIRS. SUPT. HUCKSTADT SAID THEY HAVE ABOUT $5.8 MILLION AVAILABLE TO DO THE PROJECTS. BOARD MEMBERS SAID MAKING THE BUILDINGS ENERGY EFFICIENT IS A TOP PRIORITY.

MOSTLY CLOUDY AND HIGH OF 19 TODAY.
AROUND 3 INCHES OF SNOW POSSIBLE TONIGHT AND ANOTHER INCH TOMORROW.

MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A MOBILE HOME FIRE AT 2:45 THIS
AFTERNOON TO A MOBILE HOME AT 44 YALE, OWNED BY DOUG AND HEATHER
SAID. THE COUPLE HAD BEEN GONE A COUPLE HOURS AND WHEN THEY RETURNED,
THEY COULD SEE SMOKE AT THEIR DOOR. THEY DID NOT ENTER THE TRAILER AND CALLED FIREMEN WHO ENTERED THE HOME AND FOUND THE FIRE HAD CHOKED
ITSELF OUT. IT APPARENTLY STARTED IN A GARBAGE CAN NEAR THE SINK, AND THEN BURNED THROUGH A CABINET AND MELTED PLASTIC TUBING AND
THAT CAUSED WATER TO SRRAY OVER THE FIRE AND PUT IT OUT.
LOTS OF SMOKE HAD TO BE CLEARED AND BECAUSE OF SOME ELECTRICAL AND MINOR STRUCTURAL DAMAGE, DOUG AND HEATHER SAID WILL NOT BE ABLE TO OCCUPY THE MOBILE HOME UNTIL SOME REPAIRS ARE MADE. FIREMEN WERE AT THE SCENE FOR ABOUT AN HOUR.

THE MAN WHO LAST SEPTEMBER WAS ACCUSED OF ROBBING THE ANDREW BRANCH OF THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MAQUOKETA
FROM A MILWAUKEE JAIL TO FACE CHARGES. $45,000 WAS TAKEN AND HAS NOT
BEEN RECOVERED. THEY ARE STILL SEARCHING FOR ONE OR TWO OTHERS WHO
MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED IN THE ROBBERY. NOW, THE MAN, JASON BROWN, AGE 31, IS BEING HELD IN JACKSON COUNTY DETENTION CENTER UNDER $150,000 BOND. A PRELIMINARY HEARING IS SET IN JACKSON COUNTY DECEMBER 23RD.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS LOST BY A LOT OF POINTS LAST NIGHT TO THE 3RD
RANKED DEWITT SABER GIRLS, AT DEWITT. THE CARDINALS ARE NOW 3 AND 4 FOR THE SEASON.

THE SNOW CAME OVERNIGHT. DID IT EVER!
OVER 5 INCHES.
AND IT IS STILL SNOWING. WE ARE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER INCH BEFORE IT ENDS.
HIGH TODAY WILL BE IN UPPER 20'S. THE SNOW IS ON THE HEAVY SIDE....
NOT EASY SHOVELING.

THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS AND BOYS BASKETBALL TEAMS BOTH BEAT
WATERLOO COLUMBUS LAST NIGHT.
THE WRESTLERS ARE IN A CASCADE TOURNAMENT TODAY.

IN YESTERDAYS COMMENTS ABOUT MAX MOELLER.... I FORGOT TO MENTION
THAT WHILE IN THE NAVY, HE WAS ALSO A RADIO TECHNICIAN 1ST CLASS
OPERATOR. SORRY I FORGOT THAT MAX! MAX BY THE WAY, DOESN'T TURN 91 UNTIL IN FEBRUARY. AND INTERESTING ALSO TO NOTE THAT HE DESIGNED THE CUSTOM BUILT 28 BY 40 THREE-BEDROOM HOME THIS YEAR THAT HE IS NOW LIVING IN. AND, MAX SAYS THAT AFTER 50 YEARS OF MAQUOKETA SNOW, HE DOESN'T MISS IT AT ALL.

THEN HE ROLLED ANOTHER 300 THIS PAST THURSDAY NIGHT.
TWO 300 GAMES IN LESS THAN
A WEEK. AND LAST NIGHT,
HE WAS HIGH BOWLER AGAIN
WITH A 670 SERIES. LAST YEAR
IN BELLEVUE, HE ROLLED HIS
FIRST 300 AND ALSO HIS FIRST
800 SERIES. HIS DAD RICH (ALSO A GOOD BOWLER) SAID THAT WHEN HE WAS IN SCHOOL,
HE DIDN'T LIKE BOWLING. RYAN
LIVES NEAR LaMOTTE, IN THE HOME HE BOUGHT FROM HIS GRANDPARENTS AND HE IS THE MAINTENANCE MAN
FOR THE ELECTRIC GENERATING DAM AT LAKEHURST, JUST WEST OF MAQUOKETA.
HE IS SINGLE, BUT WILL BE GETTING MARRIED NEXT YEAR. I FORGOT TO ASK
WHO THE LUCKY GIRL IS AND IF SHE IS A BOWLER OR NOT. YES INDEED, HE IS NOW MAQUOKTA'S STAR BOWLER! KEEP IT UP RYAN! LOUIE CLASEN, AT LEFT
ABOVE, THE OWNER OF TIMBER LANES, HAS A PRETTY GOOD LEAD ON RYAN.
LOUIS HAS HAD 22 PERFECT GAMES. RYAN HAS ONLY BEEN LEAGUE BOWLING FOR
ABOUT 8 YEARS, SO HE HAS PLENTY OF TIME TO CATCH LOUIE. CLICK-ON THE

IT IS SNOWING IN MAQUOKETA!
STARTED JUST BEFORE 4 P.M.
UP TO 6 INCHES EXPECTED BETWEEN NOW AND NOON
TOMORROW.

THE MAQUOKETA YMCA WILL BE LOOKING FOR ANOTHER
DIRECTOR. DAVE BAKER HAS ANNOUNCED THAT HE WILL
LEAVE THE POSITION AT THE END OF THE MONTH TO BECOME THE NEW YMCA DIRECTOR AT
STONEY POINT IN CEDAR RAPIDS.
HE WILL BE CLOSER TO HIS CHILDREN. HE RECENTLY CAME
TO MAQUOKETA FROM THE YMCA IN OMAHA.

ANOTHER CAR-DEER ACCIDENT. ASHLEE TRAFFORD OF MAQUOKETA HIS A DEAR AT 1:28 A.M. NOVEMBER 27TH ON 170TH AVENUE. $2,000 IN DAMAGES TO HER
CAR. SHE WAS NOT INJURED.

DEWITT, DELMAR, PRESTON, WYOMING, AND LOST NATION ARE ALL HAVING
SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EVENTS IN THEIR COMMUNITIES THIS WEEKEND.

TODAY, FORMER MAQUOKETA RESIDENT MAX MOELLER IS CELEBRATING 65 YEARS SINCE BEING HONORABLY DISCHARGED AS A US NAVY RADIO OPERATOR
2ND CLASS. HE IS 91 AND ENJOYING THE NEW HOME HE BUILT THIS

SIDE. AS SOON AS THE SNOW STOPS, THE BRAD DEERY GUYS GO TO WORK AND GET THE SNOW OFF THE LOTS AND HUNDREDS OF
VEHICLES. AND, BOTH SERVICE AND SALES STAY OPEN WHILE
THE REMOVAL OF SNOW GOES ON. AND...OF COURSE...SOON AFTER THE SNOW STARTS, CITY CREWS ALSO TAKE TO THE STREETS AND WORK HARD TO KEEP TRAVEL GOING IN THE TIMBER CITY. FIVE OR SIX INCHES EXPECTED TONIGHT AND TOMORROW
MORNING. DRIVE CAREFULLY AND BUCKLE-UP.

ANOTHER CLOUDY, COLD DAY TODAY...HIGH OF 29.
SNOW IS IN FORECAST OVERNIGHT FRIDAY AND SATURDAY MORNING....
ANYWHERE FROM 2 TO 6 INCHES.

THERE WILL BE ANOTHER "MEN WHO COOK" EVENT IN MAQUOKETA.
THE DATE HAS BEEN SET.....FEBRUARY 27 TH. AGAIN THIS YEAR IT WILL
BE SPONSORED BY THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY, OPTIMIST, LIONS AND
KIWANIS CLUBS, AND ALSO THE DELMAR LIONS.

A CAR-DEER ACCIDENT. DEBBIE GOODENOW REPORTED THAT SHE
HIT A DEER AT 5:02 THIS MORNING AT 15600 HIGHWAY 64.

ON THE POLICE BLOTTER: AUSTIN KENNEDY SAID SOMEONE BROKE INTO
HIS RESIDENCE ON EAST PLATT STREET TUESDAY NIGHT OR EARLY
WEDNESDAY MORNINGAND AN IPOD AND XBOX WERE STOLEN.
AND NICK GONNER SAID SOMEONE STOLE HIS WIFE'S PURSE FROM THEIR
CAR SOMETIME SATURDAY NIGHT IN THE MAQUOKETA AREA.

A VEHICLE WAS REPLORTED STOLEN YESTERDAY MORNING. AMANDA KELLER
SAID SOMEONE TOOK A 1998 CHEVY MALIBU FROM 1020 GERMAN STREET. THE VEHICLE IS REGISTERED TO BARRY STARMAN.

THE STINKY MAQUOKETA POLICE UNIFORM AND EQUIPMENT MAY BE SALVAGED.
THE POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS RECEIVED NUMEROUS CALLS WITH REMEDIES FOR THE SMELLY EQUIPMENT AND CLOTHING AND SOME ARE WORKING.
THE SQUAD CAR IS FREE OF THE SKUNK SMELL AND IS NOW OK AND IT IS
BEING USED.

THEN BEAT MARION, 44 TO 30...TO OPEN THE NEW SEASON.
