TUESDAY DAILY REPORT

RAIN THIS MORNING...HOT AND HUMID THIS AFTERNOON...HIGH OF 85.

LOOKS LIKE THE WEATHER WILL BE GREAT FOR THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR PARADE!
IT WILL START WEDNESDAY AT THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND PROCEED NORTH TO QUARRY
STREET AND THEN EAST TO THE FAIRGROUNDS,
BUT WILL NOT GO ON TO THE GROUNDS.    FOR
THOSE UNABLE TO WATCH, LISTEN TO A DESCRIPTION OF THE PARADE BY LEIGHTON AND I
ON AM, FM AND ON OUR WEB SITE  HOME PAGE.

THE JACKSON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH'S MAIN ENTRANCE VISITOR AND
PARKING LOT, LOCATED OFF GROVE STREET IN MAQUOKETA WILL BE UNDER
CONSTRUCTION BEGINNING WEDNESDAY.    EVERY EFFORT WILL BE MADE TO MINIMIZE INCONVENIENCE TO PATIENTS AND VISITORS, BUT PARKING SPACES WILL BE LIMITED DURING THIS PROCESS.    IT IS ANTICIPATED THE PROJECT WILL BE COMPLETED BY NEXT MONDAY.    DETOUR SIGNS WILL BE POSTED IN AN EFFORT TO MINIMIZE THE CONFUSION.    THE EMERGENCY
ROOM ENTRANCE WILL NOT BE AFFECTED BY THE CONSTRUCTION.

MAQUOKETA POLICE OFFICER MATT OWENS INVESTIGATED A 2 CAR
ACCIDENT INVOLVING ERIN STREETER, AGE 30, OF MAQUOKETA AND
DOUGLAS COOK, AGE 53, OF MALTA, ILLINOIS.      STREETER MADE A LEFT
TURN OFF EHLERS LANE ONTO PLATT INTO THE PATH OF COOK CAUSING
COOK TO  HIT STREETER.    $8,000 DAMAGE TO STREETER'S 2006 CHEVY AND $3,500 DAMAGE TO COOK'S 2002 FORD.   NO INJURIES AND STREETER WAS
CITED FOR FAILURE TO OBEY A STOP SIGN.

LATE THURSDAY AFERNOON IS THE DEADLINE FOR FILING PAPERS TO
RUN FOR SCHOOL BOARDS.    IN MAQUOKETA, THERE ARE 3 OPENINGS ON THE SCHOOL BOARD ELECTION BALLOT THIS SEPTEMBER 8TH.   DEB 
LANE HAS INDICATED SHE WILL NOT RUN.      BOTH MICHAEL HAYWARD AND
DAVID SYBESMA SAY THEY WILL RUN FOR RE-ELECTION.   
STILL TIME TO TAKE OUT PAPERS AND RUN.     IF ELECTED, IT WOULD BE
AN INTERESTING FOUR YEARS.

A FORMER MAQUOKETA RESIDENT, WAYNE LITTELL, AGE 89, DIED SUNDAY
AT GENESIS EAST IN DAVENPORT.    HE HAS LIVED OVER 50 YEARS AT
ELDRIDGE.    IN 1967 AND 68, HE WAS A PART TIME ANNOUNCER AT KMAQ.
HE ALSO PLAYED PIANO ACCORDIAN AND HAD HIS OWN BAND THAT PLAYED
IN THE AREA, ESPECIALLY IN NURSING HOMES.     HE HAD A 52-YEAR 
PERIOD OF NOT MISSING A LIONS CLUB MEETING.    HE IS SURVIVED BY
HIS WIFE, COLETTA  AND A DAUGHTER SHELLIE AND TWO GRANDCHILDREN.
THE FUNERAL IS FRIDAY AND HALLIGAN-MCCABE-DEVRIES FUNERAL HOME
IN DAVENPORT IS IN CHARGE OF ARRANGEMENTS.    HE WAS A GOOD
ANNOUNCER AND MUSICIAN AND I ENJOYED PERIODIC VISITS TO KMAQ
OVER THE YEARS.

18 YEARS AGO THIS SUMMER....
FOUND THE ABOVE YESTERDAY WHEN LOOKING FOR SOMETHNG IN MY FILES.

60 YEARS AGO THIS SUMMER AS PRINTED LAST
WEEK IN MY HOMETOWN NEWSPAPER IN
WISCONSIN, WHICH I STILL GET WEEKLY....
HARD TO BELIEVE I WAS ONCE 16.
