TUESDAY DAILY

THE FACADE PROGRAM DOWNTOWN IS NEARING COMPLETION.    A FEW MORE
WEEKS.     THIS BUILDING IS ACROSS FROM THEATRE AND BOB THE BARBER
IS IN RIGHT SIDE.    NOTICE, THEY GO ALL THE WAY UP TO THE ROOF, AS
THEY DID TODAY, PAINTING THE TOP PART WHICH INCLUDES THE NAME OF THE
BUILDING AND SOMETIMES YEAR IT WAS BUILDT.   THIS WAS KNOWN AS THE
ELLIS BUILDING AND THEY WILL BE ADDING A MISSING "L" LATER.   THE
OLD PART AT RIGHT OF NAME, PRETTY DARK AND  WORN.     THE GRAY AREA WILL PAINTED NEXT.    NOTICE..ALL 5 WINDOWS ARE NEW.
THEY STARTED TODAY ON THE ABOVE BUILDING NORTH OF THE
NO LONGER USED BIG BANK  BUILDING.    THE PAWN SHOP WAS LAST TO
OCCUPY IT.   IT IS A 3 STORY BUILDING.    THE TOP WINDOWS WERE CLOSED
WITH CEMENT  BLOCKS YEARS AGO.   THERE IS ONE APARTMENT ON THE
SECOND FLOOR.   THE MAIN FLOOR IS NOW THE HOME OF "NEMMER'S  REALTY".
"NEMMERS" IS A BELLEVUE BUSINESS THAT EXPANDED TO MAQUOKETA LAST
YEAR WHEN THEY PURCHASED THE "KENNEDY-GILMORE REALTY".     IT WAS
ON EAST QUARRY AND MOVED TO THIS LOCATION MONTHS AGO.
THE ABOVE BUILDING WAS QUITE DULL.   ANXIOUS TO SEE THE NEW LOOK.

SOMETIMES IF THIS DAILY IS  LONG...LIKE TODAY....WHEN YOU COME DOWN
TO WHAT IS THE END...
THERE MAY BE MORE BEFORE I PUT MY NAME IN LOWER LEFT CORNER.
IN THAT CASE TO READ MORE OF THE DAILY REPORT...BE SURE TO

WILL BE DOWNTOWN IN THE FORMER SHIRTWORKS AND
J.C. PENNY BUILDING.     BUILDING IS JUST LIKE
A NEW ONE INSIDE AND OUT,.....BACK, FRONT, ROOF
AND 2 APARTMENTS ON 2ND FLOOR.    RIGHT'
SIDE IS STILL FOR RENT.  OLD TIMERS WILL REMEMBER BUILDING
WAS THE BIG POPULAR GRAHAMS STORE 50 YEARS AGO.

THE SOUTHWEST ARTERIAL WHICH CARRIES TRAFFIC BETWEEN HIGHAY 20 AND HIGHWAYS 61/151 IS NOW OPEN TO TRAFFIC.    HIGHWAY 20 TRAFFIC
WILL USE  THIS WHOLE DEVELOPMENT WHEN COMPLETELY
DONE TO AVOID HAVING TO GO THROUGH DUBUQUE ON DODGE STREET.
IT WILL BE FASTER, SAFER AND WILL MEAN MORE TRAFFIC
ON FOUR-LANE 61 TO MAQUOKETA AND SOUTH TO I-80.    THEY HAVE BEEN WORKING ON IT FOR OVER 3 YEARS.    DUBUQUE HAS WANTED IT FOR
MANY YEARS.   IT WILL MEAN MORE BUSINESS FOR MAQUOKETA,
JUST LIKE MAQUOKETA GOT MORE BUSINESS WHEN THE NEW SAVANNA-
SABULA BRIDGE OPENED,
