WEDNESDAY DAILY

IN THE ELECTION YESTERDAY IN JACKSON COUNTY,  JACKSON COUNTY CHIEF
DEPUTY SHERIFF STEVE SCHROEDER DEFEATED MAQUOKETA ASSISTANT POLICE CHIEF BRENDAN ZIEMET...1580 TO 1208.
ON THE REPUBLICAN SIDE, SCOTT COUNTY DEPUTY BRENT KILBURG, DEFEATED
JOSEPH VEACH, JR. 1689 TO 487.      SO, EITHER SCHROEDER OR KILBURG WILL
BE THE NEW SHERIFF IN NOVEMBER, REPLACING LONGTIME SHERIFF  RUSS
KETTMAN WHO IS RETIRING.
OVER 34% VOTED YESTERDAY, MOSTLY BECAUSE OF ABSENTEE BALLOTS.
EACH ABSENTEE VOTE COST JACKSON COUNTY OVER $2.50.
FOUR YEARS AGO, 11% OF ELIGIBLE VOTERS VOTED.

MAQUOKETA HAD AT LEAST TWO MOVIE THEATRES IN DAYS BEFORE TV.
THE "PASTIME THEATRE"  FOR OVER 50 YEARS  WHERE "SMILES ON MAIN" IS NOW LOCATED.    IT CLOSED IN IN 1973.
AND THE "CHIEF THEATRE" FOR SEVERAL YEARS, WHERE "VOY 3" THEATRE IS
NOW LOCATED.
THERE MAY HAVE BEEN A THIRD THEATRE?
THE "VOY THEATRE" OPENED IN 1973, WITH JUST 1 SCREEN THEN.
IN EARLY DAYS, SINCE  THE ONLY PLACE TO SEE A MOVIE WAS AT A THEATRE,  MOST
THEATRES WOULD RUN 3 MOVIES A WEEK, AS THE OLD SHOW CARD BELOW SHOWS.
