THURSDAY DAILY

                 THE 21ST ANNUAL 
       KMAQ FARM AND  HOME SHOW
YESTERDAY, WEDNESDAY, PORK  DAY,  CAME TO A CLOSE WITH MUSIC BY THE "BLACK VELVET BAND" OF MAQUOKETA.   LEFT TO RIGHT,  DAVID
MANNING, DALE KILBURG, CHUCK JORGENSEN,
DAN CARAWAY, AND CURT LICHTER.

 "FRANZEN FAMILY NEW AND USED TRACTORS" OF
MONMOUTH HAVE BEEN AN EXHIBITOR AT EVERY
SHOW.

THIS PHOTO TAKEN LAST NIGHT.   THANKS TO
THE FLU, SNOW, EXTREME COLD AND WEATHER
WATCHES, ATTENDANCE THIS YEAR WAS DOWN
BOTH DAYS, BUT STILL A GOOD TURNOUT.

 EVEN VISITORS FROM BETTENDORF.

OVER THE NOON HOUR TODAY, ON STAGE, THE
"FRIENDS OF AGRICULTURE" AWARDS WERE PRESENTED BY THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB
AND THE MAQUOKETA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
AG COMMITTEE.    THE AGRI-BUSINESS AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO TREVIS AND NANCY MAYFIELD, OWNERS OF SYCAMORE MEDIA AND PUBLISHERS OF THE MAQUOKETA SENTINEL-PRESS, THE BELLEVUE HERALD-LEADER AND THE
DEWITT OBSERVER.   THEIR AWARD WAS PRESENTED BY SALLY DAVIES FROM THE ROTARY
CLUB. 

THE PUBLIC SERVICE PERSON AWARD WAS 
PRESENTED BY DEAN ENGEL FROM THE CHAMBER AG COMMITTEE TO AMBER MATTHEISEN FROM
THE IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY EXTENSION OFFICE IN JACKSON COUNTY.

THE  FARMER OF THE YEAR AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO THE APPLE FARM NEAR GREEN
ISLAND AND SABULA, ON HIGHWAY 52 WITH 600 APPLE TREES AND KNOWN AS "THE GRAVERT APPLE ORCHARD".    THE AWARD WAS PRESENTED TO OWNERS DIANE GRAVERT AND HER DAUGHTER LAURA LARABEE.  

EACH AWARD WINNER RECEIVES A PLAQUE FROM
THE CHAMBER AND THE ROTARY.    

THE SHOW ENDED THIS AFTERNOON WITH MUSIC
BY THE FARM AND HOME SHOW TRIO, FROM
LEFT TO RIGHT, CARL O'MALLEY, SANDY MANUEL AND RANDY McCUTCHEON, ALL OF MAQUOKETA.

THE BIG THANK YOU TO THE EXHIBITORS, THE
VISITORS TO THE SHOW EACH DAY, THE PORK
PRODUCERS AND BEEF PRODUCERS  WHO 
PREPARED THE MEAT ON THE GRILLS OUTSIDE
UNDER COLD CONDITIONS, AND TO ALL OTHERS
THAT HELPED MAKE THIS YEAR'S ANNUAL EVENT
A SUCCESS.    ANY SUGGESTIONS FOR NEXT 
YEAR, LET US KNOW.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR KMAQ?    TOURNAMENT BASKETBALL AND WRESTLING COVERAGE....
THEN VALENTINES DAY, LENT AND
