THURSDAY DAILY

THE MAQUOKETA FFA WAS NAMED STATE CHAMPIONS TODAY IN THE FOOD
SCIENCE CONTEST IN AMES, AT IOWA STATE UNIVERSITY.    THE TEAM WILL
NOW COMPETE AT THE NATIONAL CONTEST IN INDIANAPOLIS IN OCTOBER.
IN PHOTO, LEFT TO RIGHT:    ABBY DIESING, THOMAS CROSSLAND, BARB MILLER AND RACHEL VORBECK.

THE 6 LARGE PLANTERS DOWNTOWN WERE FILLED THIS WEEK, WITH
A LITTLE TREE IN THE CENTER AND FLOWERS SURROUNDING IT.
CITY WORKERS DID THE JOB.     OVER 20 SMALL PLANTERS ARE COMING AND
THOSE WILL BE CARED FOR BY THE MASTER GARDNERS.

THE CENTER, ALSO USED FOR TOURIST INFORMATION, IS NOW OPEN 7  DAYS A WEEK AND FREE ADMISSION.   GREAT PLACE TO TAKE VISITORS TO MAQUOKETA AND KIDS AND GRANDKIDS OF ALL AGES.   THEY CAN SPEND
INTERESTING MINUTES INSIDE AND WALKING AROUND OUTSIDE.    LOTS OF CREATURES IN THE MARSH WATERS.    AND, THERE IS A NICE GIFT SHOP TOO AND A FISHING POND ACROSS THE HIGHWAY.    PICNIC TABLES UNDER SHELTER AT BOTH LOCATIONS.    AND A MEETING ROOM FOR SMALL
GROUPS IN THE BASEMENT, WITH ELEVATOR.     A REALLY GREAT PLACE, OWNED AND OPERATED BY JACKSON COUNTY COSERVATION.   THE
CONSERVATION OFFICES ARE LOCATED IN ONE SEGMENT OF THE BUILDING.
AND IT ALL STARTS OFF, AFTER PARKING IN THEIR NEW PAVED PARKING
LOT (WORK DONE THIS WEEK) WITH A WALK UP THE LONG AND NEAT
WALKWAY TO THE MAIN ENTRANCE.

"HATS OFF"  TO DARYL PARKER AND HIS CONSERVATION BOARD!

NEW MAQUOKETA BUSINESS?    I THINK SO!    IN DR. YANDA'S BUILDING
OUT IN THE EAST INDUSTRIAL PARK.

A BIG MAQUOKETA BUSINESS HAS CHANGED HANDS.   I HOPE TO HAVE
THE OFFICIAL WORD TOMORROW.

THE MAQUOKETA CARDINALS BASEBALL TEAM LOST TWO GAMES AGAIN
YESTERDAY, IN MAQUOKETA, TO INDEPENDENCE 4 TO 0  AND  7 TO 6.
I THINK THEY HAVE WON JUST ONE GAME AND HAVE A DOZEN OR SO
LOSSES.
THERE IS TIME TO DO BETTER.
AND YES..THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS  WILL COME ALIVE AGAIN, SOON.
