FRIDAY DAILY

AT THE JACKSON COUNTY FAIR..IT WAS SLOW THURSDAY NIGHT FOR AWHILE, UNTIL THE STOCK CAR RACES WERE OVER.    THURSDAY ATTENDANCE WAS OVER 4,000 SLIGHTLY ABOVE
LAST YEAR.

THERE WAS A GOOD CROWD FOR THE RACES, BUT NOT A FULL  HOUSE.  STOCK CAR RACES ARE NOT AS POPULAR AS YEARS AGO WITH FANS.
LOTS OF CAR OWNERS THOUGH.

THE PHOTO ABOVE WAS TAKEN WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT THE OPTIMIST FOOD
STAND AT THE FAIR.    IN THE PICTURE IS JAKE AND JUDY BICKFORD.
JAKE IS A CHARTER MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST AND THE CLUB
IS CELEBRATING 55 YEARS THIS YEAR.     ALSO, BOTH JAKE AND JUDY HAVE
HELPED AT THE FOOD STAND EVERY SINGLE YEAR SINCE THE CLUB TOOK THE BELOW THE GRANDSTAND FOOD STAND OVER 30-PLUS YEARS AGO.
JUDY IS ALSO A MEMBER OF THE CLUB.

A WEEK AGO, A WRITER AND A PHOTOGRAPHER CAME TO MEET WITH ME
AT MY 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE, FROM THE CEDAR RAPIDS GAZETTE TO DO A FEATURE.    THE ARTICLE WILL BE THIS SUNDAY IN THE PAPER.    NOW,
IT IS ON THEIR WEB SITE.
THERE IS ALSO A GOOD SHORT VIDEO.
THERE HAVE BEEN A LOT OF FEATURES ON THE DRIVE-IN OVER THE
YEARS.    IT MAKES FOR A GOOD FEATURE FOR BOTH NEWSPAPERS AND
TV STATIONS.    THIS IS THE FIRST NEWSPAPER FEATURE IN A
CEDAR RAPIDS NEWSPAPER.    THE VIDEO IS THE FIRST THAT HAS ONLY
MUSIC IN THE BACKGROUND.
WE HAVE A LOT OF PATRONS FROM BOTH CEDAR RAPIDS AND IOWA CITY,
EVEN THOUGH IT IS NEARLY A 90-MINUTE DRIVE FROM THE CITIES.
