SUNDAY AFTERNOON IN JACKSON COUNTY

THE ANNUAL "HAND" CORN PICKING CONTEST AT TE CORN FIELD NEXT TO THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM.       RULES....
A FATHER-SON PICKING TEAM ABOVE....PHIL GENT OF MONMOUTH GUIDING THE WAGON  WITH TWO OF HIS HORSES AND SON SCOTT PICKING THE CORN.   GOOD TURN-OUT FOR THE EVENT YESTERDAY.
KEVIN BROWN OF BELLEVUE, A VOLUNTEER WORKING EVERY DAY PUTTING
WOOD SHINGLES ON THE DEPOT ADJACENT TO THE CLINTON ENGINES
MUSEUM.    SPREAD THE WORD....HE NEEDS SOME HELP.    AS THE PHOTO

HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE STOPPED TO MEET TOM LINCOLN AT HIS NEW
STOCKYARDS SALE BARN AT THE NORTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA, 
FORMERLY UNITED LIVESTOCK.    IT  HAS BEEN PAINTED OUTSIDE
AND INSIDE, WITH PURPLE ACCENT, INCLUDING THE RESTAURANT WHICH
SOON BE OPEN 6 DAYS A WEEK.   THE FIRST SALE IN THE SALE RING ABOVE WILL BE IN TWO OR THREE WEEKS, AND THERE WILL BE NUMEROUS SALES
MONTHLY.
STANDING ABOVE IN THE AUDITORIUM, TWO LONGTIME AG LEADERS
IN JACKSON COUNTY.    PROBABLY TODAY'S  OLDEST BUSINESSMAN, ROSS
RIVER AND PROBABLY THE OLDEST ACTIVE FARMER, GENE STILMUNKES.
THERE ARE 436 SEATS.
GENE (HIS FARMS ARE LOCATED ON HIGHWAY 61 IN NORTHERN JACKSON
COUNTY) IS 90 AND ROSS IS A FEW YEARS YOUNGER.  
DROVE THROUGH THE UNION CEMETERY SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA.
CAME ACROSS THIS INTERESTING STONE FOR JOHN RIGGS.    ANYONE KNOW DETAILS OF THE MURDER?
DROVE PAST A GRAND OLD FARM HOME SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA....VISABLE FOR MILES.
AND A GRAND NEW HOME GOING UP NORTH OF MAQUOKETA.
AND ANOTHER GRAND NEW HOME GOING UP IN MAQUOKETA, AT THE
SOUTH EDGE.
AND A GRAND VIEW OF A MAQUOKETA NEIGHBORHOOD SHOWING THE COLORS OF FALL.

ENDED UP WATCHING THE REST OF ANOTHER  GRAND VICTORY FOR THE GREEN BAY PACKERS.
