FRIDAY DAILY REPORT

HOT DAY AGAIN...NICE...84.
REST OF WEEKEND SHOULD BE HOT AND DRY.
PERFECT WEATHER TO GO FISHING?
THE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CALLED AT 4:15 THIS MORNING TO THE DEVENISH NUTRITION BUSINESS ON PERSHING ROAD.
THERE WERE FLAMES ON THE NORTHWEST CORNER OF ONE OF THE
BUILDINGS, THAT HAD FIRE EXTINGUISHERS.    THE FIRE WAS PUT AND
AN ALL-CLEAR WAS 3 HOURS LATER.     WE HAVE NO INFORMATION ON
THE CAUSE OF THE FIRE OR THE AMOUNT OF DAMAGE.

SPY....STARTS TONIGHT NATIONWIDE AND  HERE IN MAQUOKETA.

THE IOWA STATE PATROL  HAS RELEASED THE NAME TO KMAQ OF THE
DAVENPORT MAN WHO DIED IN MAQUOKETA LAST SUNDAY NIGHT.
HE IS CRAIG "WILLIE" MOSS AGE 39 AND HE DIED AT THE MAQUOKETA
HOSPITAL OF AN APPARENT GUN SHOT WOUND.    HE WAS DESCRIBED AS BEING DISTRAUGHT.    A TROOPER SPOTED HIS CAR NEAR FULTON,  AND      FOLLOWED IT TO MAQUOKETA.    MOSS  FAILED TO STOP DESPITE THE USE OF SQUAD CAR LIGHTS AND SIRENS.     ANOTHER SQUAD CAR WAS PARKED ON HIGH 61 IN AN ATTEMPT TO STOP HIM AND MOSS HIT THE SQUAD CAR AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA, FORCING THE MOSS CAR INTO THE MEDIAN.   IT WAS AT THAT TIME THAT HE APPARENTLY SHOT HIMSELF.    HIS FUNERAL WAS TODAY.

THE MAQUOKETA FFA HAD A GOOD WEEK AS THE PHOTO ABOVE SHOWS.
THE FFA PARTICIPATED IN 3 DIFFERENT STATE FFA SKILL CONTESTS.   THE FOOD SCIENCE TEAM FINISHED 7TH IN THE STATE.   TEAM MEMBERS WERE
BROOKE LAPKE, MADISON LAPKE, CASSIE HUEBBE AND FANNIE MILLER.
THE  TEAM WAS NAMED TOP PRACTICUM TEAM AND FANNIE MILLER WAS TOP
INDIVIDUAL.   
THE AGRONOMY TEAM FINISHED 5TH IN THE STATE.    MEMERS WERE CALE GENT, KADEN WAACH,  J.P. CROWLEY AND JACKSON TUBBS.   THE TEAM FINISHED 2ND IN THE  TEAM FINANCIAL PLANNING  E=CATEGORY AND 2ND IN
THE WRITTEN EXAM.    
THE VET SCIENCE TEAM WAS NAMED TEAM CHAMPION IN THE STATE AND
WILL TRAVEL TO LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY IN OCTOBER TO COMPETE AT THE NATIONAL CONTEST.   TEAM MEMBERS WERE J.P. CROWLEY, BLAIR BENNIS,
ABBY RUBEL AND DELANEY CLARK.    J.P. CROWLEY WAS NAMED THE
INDIVIDUAL CHAMPION AS WELL.
CONGRATULATIONS TO THE MAQUOKETA FFA TEAM.

FRONT ON THE PARKING LOT.
IT SAYS THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT PANCAKE BREAKFAST
WILL BE THIS SUNDAY FROM 7 A.M UNTIL NOON  AT THE FIRE STATION
ABOVE.   PANCAKES, SCRAMBLED EGGS, SAUSAGE, APPLESAUCE, MILK,
JUICE AND COFFEE.   $7    AND CHILDREN 6 AND OVER, $4.    5 AND UNDER
FREE.

SPORTS:    VINTON SHELLSBURG BASEBALL TEAM DEFEATED THE CARDINALS TWICE LAST NIGHT.
THE SOFTBALL  TEAM SPLIT WITH CLEAR CREEK AMANA.

MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATE LESIE BIEHL HAS BEEN NAMED
A FIRST TEAM ALL-AMERICAN DIVISON TWO IN SOFTBALL, BY THE NATIONAL
JUNIOR COLLEGE ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION.     THE SOPHOMORE OUTFIELDER HIT .428 FOR KIRKWOOD COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND HELPED THEM TO A 21 AND 1 RECORD.     SHE HAD 25 HOME RUNS AND DROVE IN 86 RUNS.
SHE HAS HAD SEVERAL OFFERS TO CONTINUE HER COLLEGE CAREER
AND SOFTBALL CAREER AND IS LEADING TOWARD GRANDVIEW COLLEGE IN
DES MOINES.    SHE IS STILL UNDECIDED.   SHE IS THE DAUGHTER
OF DOUG BIEHL OF MAQUOKETA.
