WEDNESDAY DAILY REPORT

PARTLY SUNNY AND HOT TODAY....HIGH OF 78.    WE WERE EXPECTING TO BE IN THE 80'S...BUT DIDN'T MAKE IT.
A LITTLE WARMER TOMORROW, HIGH OF 79.
SUNDAY, MOTHER'S DAY ...  LOOKING GOOD.

THE 59TH ANNUAL MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB "SCHOLARS BANQUET"
WAS HELD TONIGHT (WEDNESDAY) AT THE FIRST UNITED METHODIST
CHURCH.    FOR A LIST OF THE TOP 20 STUDENTS, THEIR PARENTS,
AND A PHOTO, GO TO WWW.KMAQ.COM AND CLICK-ON THE ROTARY BLUE
WHEEL.

THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT COMMISSION IS STILL LOOKING FOR A GROUP
TO SPONSOR THE ANNUAL FLY-IN BREAKFAST AT THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT.
WITH A LOCAL FIRM TO CATER IT, (THERE WOULD BE LITTLE WORK FOR THE CLUB) THE PROFIT COULD BE HUNDREDS OF DOLLARS, OR MORE.   STOP IN OR CALL CITY HALL IF INTERESTED.

HOSPICE OF JACKSON COUNTY HAS DECIDED TO SELL THEIR LAND
NORTH OF THE MAQUOKETA HOSPITAL AND DROP PLANS TO CONSTRUCT A HOSPICE HOUSE THERE.    THEY ARE NOW RENTING THE FORMER MEDICAL
ASSOCIATES BUILDING ON WEST QUARRY STREET, SOUTH OF THE
HOSPITAL.    REIMBURSEMENT RATES BY MEDICARE AND TITLE 19 HAVE
AFFECTED THEIR  FINANCES.    AND, THE ESTIMATED COST TO BUILD A NEW HOSPICE HOUSE,  BACK WHEN LAND WAS PURCHASED, WAS $1-MILLION.
THE MORE REALISTIC ESTIMATE NOW, OVER $2 1/2 MILLION.
PERSONALLY, I THINK THE BUILDING WHERE THEY ARE NOW IS GOOD AND COULD BE MADE BETTER IF THEY OWNED IT.    MAYBE THE CURRENT OWNERS WILL DONATE IT AND TAKE A TAX DEDUCTION.

A FARM FIELD DAY IS PLANNED AT THE CITY-OWNED ACREAGE NEXT TO
THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM ON SATURDAY.    SKOTT GENT SAID THEY PLAN TO  DO HORSE-DRAWN PLANTING OF CORN, WEATHER PERMITTING.
SEVERAL PEOPLE ARE PLANNING TO BRING HORSES TO USE WITH
ANTIQUE PLANTING EQUIPMENT.    THE PROPERTY IS 4 ACRES.
THE MAQUOKETA FFA WILL HAVE A LUNCH STAND AND PICNIC TABLES.
IT WILL BE START AT 10 AM AND END WHEN THE CORN IS ALL PLANTED.
THE CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM WILL BE OPEN.

ON THE POLICE BLOTTER, DOUG CLARK ON  SOUTH MAIN SAID SOMEONE ENTERED HIS UNLOCKED GARAGE AND TOOK A SEARS SNOWBLOWER.
AND K-MOTOR SPORTS ON EAST PLATT REPORTED SOMEONE TOOK A BATTERY, SEAT AND CARBUREATOR FROM A QUAD VEHICLE.

SACRED HEART SCHOOL RECEIVED A $1,000 GRANT FROM FARM CREDIT SERVICES BECAUSE OF THE SCHOOL'S STRIDES TO MAKE A POSITIVE
DIFFERENCE IN MAQUOKETA.

SPORTS:   THE MAQUOKETA GIRL'S SOCCER TEAM LOST TO SOLON
YESTERDAY, 2 TO  1, FOR THEIR FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS.  THEIR
OVERALL RECORD IS 6 AND 3.
