BRIG. GEN. (MARINES LAWYER) CHARLES MITCHELL (RETIRED), AGE 75, DIED SATURDAY AT HIS HOME IN MAQUOKETA....AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH CANCER.     SURVIVORS INCLUDE HIS WIFE, MAQUOKETA NATIVE BONNIE
(WELLS), WHO IS THE CURATOR OF THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL
SOCIETY.    GEN. MITCHELL WAS MY FRIEND AND FOR SEVERAL YEARS, A FELLOW ROTARIAN.   HE WAS A VERY INTELLIGENT MAN WHO SERVED HIS COUNTRY WELL IN THE MARINES AND SERVED MAQUOKETA WELL,  AFTER HE AND BONNIE MOVED TO MAQUOKETA NEARLY 10 YEARS AGO.    HIS MAIN
ENDEAVOR SINCE THEN, WAS TO SELL THE IDEA OF A CLINTON ENGINES
MUSEUM TO MAQUOKETANS, THEN HELP RAISE MONEY TO ESTABLISH IT AND THEN, ALMOST 7 DAYS A WEEK, HELP WITH ITS CONSTRUCTION.
TO MY KNOWLEDGE, MAQUOKETA HAS NEVER HAD A RETIRED GENERAL
AS A CITIZEN OF THE CITY.    MORE THAN ONCE, HE SPOKE AT SERVICES FOR MILITARY HOLIDAYS.      GENERAL MITCHELL....PARADE REST!
MY SYMPATHY TO BONNIE AND HER FAMILY.    SERVICES ARE PENDING
AT THE LAHEY FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICES.

HAVE A GOOD WEEK AND DON'T PUT AWAY THAT SHOW SHOVEL YET!
