JACKSON COUNTY NOW OFFICIALLY OWNS THE PENROSE HOME JUST
WEST OF THE LAW CENTER ON WEST PLATT STREET.   AFTER CLOSING
COSTS AND TAXES, THE CHECK OF $197,170 WAS APPROVED BY THE SUPERVISORS AND THE COUNTY TAKES IMMEDIATE POSSESSION.
THE COUNTY WILL REMODEL THE HOME AND MAKE IT INTO OFFICES,MOST LIKELY FOR MENTAL HEALTH AND CASE MANAGEMENT OFFICES.

MAQUOKETA FIREMEN WERE CALLED TO A VEHICLE FIRE EARLY YESTERDAY AFTERNOON ON WESTERN AVENUE.    THE VAN WAS FULLY ENGULFED WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED.    AND THEY QUICKLY PUT THE FIRE OUT.   THE VEHICLE WAS OWNED BY TONYA CLARK.

IS AT THE FIGGE ART MUSEUM AT 225 WEST SECOND STREET IN DOWNTOWN DAVENPORT.    ROSE FRANTZEN'S HOMAGE TO THE PEOPLE OF HER HOMETOWN, MAQUOKETA, WILL BE ON DISPLAY IN THE 3RD FLOOR GALLERY THROUGH JANUARY 20, 2013.     ALL 180 PORTRAITS OF RESIDENTS OF MAQUOKETA.   PLUS, THERE WILL BE A MULTI-PANEL, FREE-HANGING PORTRAIT OF THE TOWN ITSELF.
THIS FRIDAY MORNING, THERE WILL BE A PRIVATE PREVIEW FOR THE PRESS.    I HAVE BEEN INVITED...WILL TAKE MY LITTLE CAMERA...AND WILL
REPORT BACK HERE EARLY NEXT WEEK.

TOURNAMENT VOLLEYBALL REPORT:    LAST NIGHT, DAVENPORT NORTH
DEFEATED THE DEWITT SABERS TEAM, 3 MATCHES TO 1.
LAST WEEK, MAQUOKETA DEFEATED DAVENPORT NORTH DURING NON-TOURNAMENT PLAY, 3 TO 0.    MAQUOKETA RECEIVED A BYE IN FIRST  ROUND TOURNAMENT COMPETITION AND NOW WILL PLAY DAVENPORT NORTH IN TOURNAMENT PLAY  AT 7 THIS THURSDAY NIGHT, AT THE MCHS GYM.      IF THE CARDINALS WIN THURSDAY NIGHT, THEY PLAY AGAIN NEXT TUESDAY (WEEK FROM TONIGHT) AND THEN IF THEY WIN, THEY GO TO
THE STATE TOURNAMENT.

I AM NOT THAT DISAPPOINTED ABOUT THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS.
THEY HAD A VERY GOOD YEAR AND THE GIANTS ARE AN AWSOME
TEAM.
