FRIDAY WAS ANOTHER GREAT DAY.....BEAUTIFUL WEATHER.

YESTERDAY, NANCY AND I TOOK A QUICK TRIP TO THE STATE FAIR IN DES MOINES AND THEY ARE HAVING RECORD CROWDS BECAUSE OF THE GOOD, COOLER WEATHER.
WE SAW TWO OTHER PEOPLE THERE WE KNEW.

IOWA CORN CROP IS TURNING OUT BETTER THAN EXPECTED, BECAUSE OF THE GOOD JULY WEATHER.

JACKSON COUNTY WILL HAVE A NEW COUNTY ATTORNEY. PHIL TABOR APPLIED FOR THE JOB OF CLINTON COUNTY ASSOCIATE JUDGE, TO REPLACE JUDGE ARLEN VAN ZEE WHO IS RETIRING. THERE WERE 16 APPLICATIONS AND TABOR WAS THEN PUT IN THE TOP 3 AND YESTERDAY, GOT THE JOB. HE HAS BEEN COUNTY ATTORNEY HERE SINCE JANUARY OF 2007 AND WAS ALSO JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY FROM 1990 - 2000. IN BETWEEN, HE WAS IN PRIVATE PRACTICE HERE IN MAQUOKETA. HIS WIFE NANCY, IS A DISTRICT COURT JUDGE. FOR THE NEW CLINTON COUNTY JUDGESHIP, PHIL TABOR WILL HAVE TO MOVE TO CLINTON COUNTY. SUPERVISORS HAVE 50 DAYS TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT FOR THE POSITION OF JACKSON COUNTY ATTORNEY. THERE IS AN ASSISTANT NOW, AND HE COULD BE APPOINTED. COUNTY RESIDENTS ALSO COULD PETITION THE COUNTY FOR A SPECIAL ELECTION TO FILL THE POSITION.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS SAY THEY SUPPORT THE MOVING OF THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT ROAD TO HELP THE AIRPORT COME INTO COMPLIANCE WITH THE FAA. THE MOVING WOULD ALLOW THE RUNWAY TO BE EXTENDED.
COST IS ESTIMATED AT $813,000. THE FAA MAY PAY AS MUCH AS 95% AND THE CITY AND COUNTY TO PAY THE BALLANCE. THIS WAS DISCUSSED AT THE MEETING LAST NIGHT OF THE MAQUOKETA AIRPORT COMMISSION. ALSO TALKED ABOUT WAS THE IDEA OF PAVING THE NEW ROAD. IT IS ESTIMATED IT COULD BE 2 OR 3 YEARS BEFORE ALL OF THIS COULD HAPPEN.

TOMORROW, THE PUBLIC GETS TO SEE THE NEW CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM, IN THE REDONE BUILDING THAT WAS THE COMPANY'S HEADQUARTERS. A WAFFLE BREAKFAST KICKS OFF THE SPECIAL DAY. RIBBON CUTTING AT 1 AND TOURS ALL DAY. ALSO, FORMER CLINTON ENGIENS EMPLOYEES AND FAMILY WILL BE ATTENDING AT THE BUILDING, A COMPANY REUNION. EVERYONE IS WELCOME TOMORROW AND NO CHARGE TO SEE THE NEW MUSEUM. THERE WILL BE A CHARGE FOR THE WAFFLE BREAKFAST WITH THE WAFFLES DONE BY A FIRM OUT OF ALGONA.

WE HAVE NOT OBITUARIES.

HAVE A NICE WEEKEND.
