THE JACKSON COUNTY HISTORICAL SOCIETY IS STARTING A FUND-RAISER FOR THE CLINTON ENGINES PROJECT. THE FORMER CLINTON ENGINES ADMINISTRATION BUILDING IS IN THE PROCESS OF BEING RENOVATED FOR A NEW MUSEUM AND IT IS
ANTICIPATED TO OPEN IN AUGUST. THE GROUP HOPES TO RAISE $700,000 TO COMPLETE THE PROJECT. SO FAR, THEY HAVE RECEIVED $288,831 IN GRANTS.

CLINTON ENGINES MUSEUM AND ALSO THE BUILDING WILL HOUSE THE CLINTON ENGINES HISTORICAL ASSOCIATION, THE JACKSON COUNTY GENEALOGICAL CHAPTER AND WILL ALSO BE THE ORPHAN TRAIN RESEARCH CENTER. THERE ARE FIVE ACRES ON THE MAPLE STREET SITE AND SOMETIME, IT IS HOPED TO ADD ON A RAILROAD MUSEUM AND ADD EXHIBITS ON MIDWEST BUSINESS AND INSUSTRY.
THERE IS CURRENTLY NO ROOM FOR EXPANSION AT THE FAIRGROUNDS MUSEUM.
EXTENSIVE WORK HAS ALREADY BEEN DONE TO THE FORMER OFFICE COMPLEX OF CLINTON ENGINES, INCLUDING NEW WINDOWS, ROOF, HEATING AND AIR-CONDITIONING SYSTEM, SIDEWALKS AND MUCH MORE. INTERIOR WORK HAS BEEN GOING ON THROUGHOUT THE WINTER. THE FUND RAISING COMMITTEE IS SUGGESTING 3-YEAR PLEDGES. ON THE COMMITTEE: ASHER SCHROEDER, BONNIE MITCHELL, DARWIN POLK, WANDA CORNELIUS, FORREST MILLER, RED HENTON,

THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MEMBERS DO NOT PLAN TO PROPOSE A TAX INCREASE FOR NEXT YEAR. IN FACT, MONDAY NIGHT, THE BOARD APPROVED PUBLISHING A BUDGET WITH A TAX DECREASE.
AND, THIS WEEK, THE BOARD APPROVED A 4 PERCENT SALARY INCREASE FOR TEACHERS. THEY ALSO APPROVED THE SAME HEALTH INSURANCE PACKAGE.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
