NO SNOW TODAY. NO SNOW TODAY. SUNSHINE TODAY. HIGH IN TEENS.
IT WAS ANNOUNCED TODAY THAT MAQUOKETA HAS RECEIVED 57 INCHES OF SNOW IN NOVEMBER, DECEMBER AND JANUARY AFTER YESTERDAAY'S 4 1/2 INCHES.
NOT THE SNOWIEST EVER, BUT STILL WEEKS OF WINTER LEFT. THE RECORD IS IN THE 70-INCHES CATEGORY, BUT THIS WINTER WILL BE IN THE TOP FIVE "MOST-SNOW- EVER" WINTERS IN THE HISTORY OF MAQUOKETA. HE SAID DRIFTS WERE SO BAD IN JACKSON COUNTY, THAT COUNTY CREWS HAD TO USE END LOADERS TO REMOVE THE SNOW BECAUSE THE MOTOR GRADERS WOULDN'T PUSH THE SNOW.
BECAUSE OF THE WINTER SNOW, MAQUOKETA'S PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT
IS CURRENTLY $35,000 OVER BUDGE AND MAY HIT $50,000 BY THE END OF WINTER.
PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR DAVE POPP TOLD THE CITY'S STREET COMMITTEE LAST NIGHT THAT THE INCREASE IF FROM OVERTIME, FUEL, EQUIPMENT REPAIRS, AND MATERIALS. HE SAID THE CITY SHOULD BE IN GOOD SHAPE FOR SALE AND SAND
FOR THE REST OF THE WINTER.'
