BREEZY AND HOT TODAY...HIGH NEAR 90.

TODD WESTPHAL OF MAQUOKETA WAS AIRLIFTED TO UIVERSITY HOSPITALS WEDNESDAY
AFTER HIS TRUCK ROLLED OVER HIM IN A FIELD AT THE SOUTH EDGE OF MAQUOKETA.
HE WAS CHECKING CATTLE WHEN THE FREAK ACCIDENT OCCURRED. HE AND HIS WIFE OWN JACKSON COUNTY HOME FURNISHNGS FURNITURE STORE DOWNTOWN AND SHE TOLD US THIS MORNING THAT HE IS HIS UP AND WALKING. GOOD NEWS.

THE MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL BPA CLUB SPONSORED A BLOOD DRIVE AT THE BAND ROOM OF THE HIGH SCHOOL YESTERDAY AND 74 UNITS WERE COLLECTED, A LITTLE SHORT OF THIRE GOAL.

THE DEADLINE FOR CITY OFFICES WAS 5 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. IN MAQUOKETA, THERE WILL BE 2 CONTESTED RACES. IN THE 5TH WARD, WHERE PAUL HAHLE IS NOT RUNNING AGAIN,
FILING FOR THE POSITION, TODD GREEN, LEONARD DITCH AND MARGO SHOUSE. AND FOR THE AT-LARGE POSITION, INCUMBENT NEIL MOREHEAD WILL BE CHALLENGED BY ED TURNEY.
MAYOR TOM MESSERLIE IS RUNNING UNOPPOSED. ALSO RUNNING UNOPPOSED, CURRENT COUNCIL REPS MATT WINEGAR AND MARSHA MYERS.

THE OLD RUSSELL BROTHERS GROCERY STORE BUILDING ON EAST PLATT BIT THE DUST YESTERDAY.
AND WAS BULLDOZED DOWN. IT IS OWNED BY WELLS PLUMBING, WHO BOUGHT IT 30 YEARS AGO, AND IT WAS USED FOR THAT BUSIENSS FOR MANY YEARS UNTIL MOVING ON THE BYPASS.
THE LAST BUSINESS IN BUIDLING WAS AN ANTIQUE STORE. WELLS SAID IT WAS IN BAD SHAPE.
THE METAL BUILDING WELLS BUILT MANY YEARS AGO STILL STANDS. WELLS SAID HE WILL LIKELY NOW SELL THE PROPERTY.

THE HOMECOMING FOOTBALL GAME IS TONIGHT. MAQUOKETA SHOULD BEAT ANAMOSA AND
I'LL HAVE THE SCORE FOR YOU TOMORROW MORNING.

ALSO TONIGHT AT 6, MY GRANDDAUGHTER SARA CLASEN GETS MARRIED TO AARON CLARK
AT COSTELLO'S OLD MILL EVENT CENTER. SARA, 22, IS MY FIRST GRANDCHILD TO
GET MARRIED. THEY WILL LIVE IN DAVENPORT WHERE THEY BOTH WORK. AN EXCITING NIGHT COMING UP.
