SUNSHINE AND 51 TODAY.

THE STATE WRESTLING TOURNAMENT IS UNDERWAY AT DES MOINES.
DR. PAUL KOOB HAS BEEN ON-THE-AIR ALL AFTERNOON ON KMAQ-FM,
BROADCASTING THE 3 MAQUOKETA AND 7 DEWITT MATCHES.
BILLY KIRK WON HIS OPENING MATCH AND WRESTLES AGAIN TOMORROW.
MARV BREEDEN LOST HIS FIRST MATCH, BUT WON HIS WRESTLE-BACK
MATCH AND WRESTLES AGAIN TOMORROW. BILLY IS A SENIOR AND MARV IS A FRESHMAN. FRESHMAN TIM O'CONNELL LOST BOTH OF HIS MATCHES THIS AFTERNOON AND HAS NOW FINISHED HIS WRESTLING IN THE TOURNAMENT.

THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL TOOK ANOTHER LOOK AT THE SPEED LIMIT ON SOUTH MAIN STREET THIS WEEK,.....AND THEY CHANGED THE SPEED LIMIT AGAIN. THIS TIME, THE 35 MPH STAYS FROM HORSESHOE POND PARK TO THE SOUTH ON-OFF RAMPS FOR HIGHWAY 61. FROM THE RAMPS TO THE CITY LIMITS, COUNCIL MEMBERS ARE NOW SUGGESTING 50 MPH. PREVIOUSLY, THEY HAD SUGGESTED 55 IN THAT AREA. CITY MANAGER BRIAN WAGNER SAID CHIEF BRAD KORANDA AND SHERIFF RUSS KETTMAN ARE PROPOSING THE 50 MPH SPEED LIMIT ON THE HIGHWAY NEAR GENERAC AND FAMILY DOLLAR. THE COUNCIL SAID THEY WOULD GO ALONG WITH THE OFFICERS RECOMMENDATIONS.
SO, STILL MORE TO COME.
AND..MORE DISCUSSION TOO ON THE STOP SIGNS (4-WAY STOP) AT SOUTH MAIN AND QUARRY STREET. SOME PEOPLE (INCLUDING A MOTHER OF TWO CHILDREN) STILL THINK IT IS BAD THE WAY IT IS FOR KIDS CROSSING THE INTERSECTION.

SPEAKING OF GENERAC. THE COMPANY, INCLUDING THE MAQUOKETA PLANT, HAS BEEN SOLD AS REPORTED RECENTLY HERE....SOLD FOR A BILLION DOLLARS. THIS WEEK, AN INSERT IN THE PAPER IS CALLING FOR APPLICANTS FOR JOB OPENINGS AT THE PLANT. GOOD NEWS FOR MAQUOKETA.
