THE MAQUOKETA KIWANIS CLUB HELD ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL
GOLF TOURNAMENT YESTERDAY AT THE MAQUOKETA COUNTRY CLUB.
OVER 30 FOUR-SOMES, INCLUDING CELEBRITY GOLFERS. THEY INCLUDED THE VOICE OF HAWKEYE SPORTS, GARY DOLPHIN AND THE COLOR COMMENTARY ANNOUNCER FOR HAWKEYE BASKETBALL BROADCASTS AND FORMER HAWKEYE STANDOUT, BOBBIE HANSEN. LOTS OF PRIZES. AN AUCTION. AN EVENING DINNER. AT THE AUCTION, A SETTING (PAINTED PORTRAIT) BY FAMOUS ARTIST ROSE FRANTZEN OF MAQUOKETA WENT FOR AROUND $1,200. AND WORD IS, THE EVENT NETTED AROUND $20,000 FOR THEIR TREASURY WHICH DOES MUCH FOR MAQUOKETA. AND...IT IS JUST A SMALL CLUB. CONGRATULATIONS.

CHARLES "CHUCK" BAGUSS, AGE 60, OF MAQUOKETA DIED ON APRIL 4TH, AT MERCY HOSPITAL IN DUBUQUE. I UNDERSTAND HIS DEATH NOTICE WAS NOT IN THIS REPORT. I MISS ITEMS FOR THIS REPORT QUITE REGULARLY, SORRY TO ADMIT. CHUCK WORKED FOR ME AT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE FOR SEVERAL YEARS, AND WAS ALSO A PART-TIME ANNOUNCER HERE AT KMAQ THOSE YEARS. HE IS SURVIVED BY 5 CHILDREN, 8 GRANDCHILDREN AND 2 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN. ALSO 3 SISTERS, INCLUDING MARTHA RINIKER OF MAQUOKETA AND 1 BROTHER, GERALD OF MAQUOKETA. GRAVESIDE SERVICES AND BURIAL OF ASHES
WILL BE AT 1 P.M. MAY 27TH AT THE MONMOUTH, IOWA CEMETERY.

A MAQUOKETA MAN HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH HAVING CHILD PORNOGRAPHY ON HIS COMPUTER, AS WELL AS ON DVD'S AND VIDEOTAPES. ROBERT DANIEL CLARK, AGE 34, HAS BEEN CHARGED WITH TWO COUNTS OF COMMITING SEXUAL EXPLOITATION OF A MINOR AND CHILD ENDANGERMENT. HE IS SCHEDULED TO APPEAR BEFORE THE MAGISTRATE ON MAY 25TH.

THE HOOF BUILDING IN THE INDUSTRIAL PARK HAS BEEN SOLD. IT IS THE VERY LARGE INDUSTRIAL BUILDING ON THE CORNER, OFF HIGHWAY 64 EAST. THE NEW OWNER IS SPIEGEL FAMILY REALITY OF PEOSTA.
THE NEW OWNERS WILL KEEP MELLING SLEEVE COMPANY IN THE BUILDING. AND THEY WILL RENT OUT OTHER PARTS OF THE BUILDING TOO.

THE NATIONAL GOLDWING ASSOCIATION HAS CONFIRMED THAT MAQUOKETA WILL BE THE HEADQUARTERS FOR THEIR NATIONAL CONVENTION JULY 15-19, 07. ABOUT 175 WILL ATTEND THE CONVENTION.

THE JACKSON COUNTY REGIONAL HEALTH CENTER (NEW NAME OF HOSPITAL) WILL OFFER MUMPS VACCINATIONS ON MONDAY....FROM 6 UNTIL 8 P.M. IN THE LOWER LEVEL OF THE HOSPITAL.

PAUL STEWART, OF STATESVILLE, NORTH CAROLINA, WAS IN MAQUOKETA TODAY. HE WAS ON HIS WAY TO BELOIT FOR A NATIONAL TOURNAMENT THIS WEEKEND AND STOPPED OFF TO SEE HIS GOOD FRIEND, RED HENTON OF MAQUOKETA. RED OF COURSE, WAS A WORLD CHAMPION IN THE SPORT YEARS AGO. PAUL SAID THAT THE POPULARITY OF HORSESHOW PITCHING STAYS ABOUT THE SAME YEAR AFTER YEAR. HE SAID A NEW NATIONAL HALL OF FAME HORSESHOW MUSEUM IS GOING UP IN THE ST. LOUIS AREA AND WILL OPEN NEXT YEAR. CAN RED STILL PITCH THOSE SHOES? I DON'T THINK SO....AT LEAST, NOT VERY GOOD. RED IS A
"LEFTY" AND SAYS NO STEROIDS WERE USED BY HIM.

DEE KRUM, THE SPEACH TEACHER AT MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL HAS BEEN NAMED THE MAQUOKETA TEACHER OF THE YEAR. SHE GOT A $1,000 CHECK FOR THE HIGH SCHOOL, FROM THE LOCAL WAL-MART STORE. AN EXCELLENT CHOICE. HER MOTHER WAS ON HAND AT THE SCHOOL ASSEMBLY WHEN SHE RECEIVED THE AWARD. SHE ALSO GOT A $100 WAL-MART GIFT CARD TO BUY SUPPLIES FOR HER CLASSROOM, A WAL-MART POLO SHIRT AND A CERTIFICATE OF RECOGNITION. THE $1,000 CAN BE USED FOR ANY PURPOSE IN THE DISTRICT.

IRENE ROSE OF MAQUOKETA WILL CELEBRATE HER 93RD BIRTHDAY THIS SUNDAY. SHE AND HER LATE HUSBAND, JOE, OWNED A FARM IMPLEMENT STORE IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS.

MATT OSTERHAUS IS CELEBRATING HIS BIRTHDAY TODAY. OWNS OSTERHAUS PHARMACY AND HAS BEEN AND STILL IS A BIG MAQUOKETA BOOSTER. HIS "BIG ONE" WILL BE CELEBRATED NEXT YEAR.
