ANOTHER HEAT WAVE...94 TODAY....NO RAIN.....MAYBE SOME RAIN THURSDAY AND COOLER THIS WEEKEND.

JACKSON COUNTY FAIR ATTENDANCE FOR THE 5 DAYS, 19,261. VERY GOOD. LAST YEAR WAS 17,115.

MONTANNA DEPPE FROM RURAL ANDREW SHOWED THE RESERVE CHAMPION STEER AND THE GRAND CHAMP WAS SHOWN BY KATIE WILSON OF MILES.

A FIRE LAST NIGHT AT 503 S. ELIZA. IT WAS CONTAINED TO AN UPSTAIRS APARTMENT KITCHEN STOVE.
DENNIS DAHL, A DOWNSTAIRS TENANT, THREW A COUPLE BUCKETS OF WATER ON THE STOVE TO PUT IT OUT BEFORE FIREMEN ARRIVED AT 10:25. STATY STARR HAD JUST MOVED IN UPSTAIRS SUNDAY AND SOMETHING WAS LEFT ON THE STOVE. SMOKE WAS COMING OUT THE WINDOWS WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED AND THE ACTION BY DAHL AVOIDED A MAJOR FIRE.

A MAQUOKETA MAN KICKED OUT THE BACK WINDOW OF A MAQUOKETA SQUAD CAR FRIDAY NIGHT AND MATTHEW LASLEY, 19, WAS ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING.

ON POLICE BLOTTER....KAREN MEYER OF SOUTH MATTESON REPORTED HER L962 GEO WAS STOLEN AT ABOUT 6 SATURDAY MORNING. IT WAS LISTED AT A VALUE OF $750.

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.

MARY JEAN MCCARTHY, 63, OF BERNARD, DIED AT HER HOME SATURDAY AFTER A LONG ILLNESS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY HER HUSBAND, JACK, AND A DAUGHTER AND TWO GRANDCHILDREN. ALSO A BROTHER, LORAS MCLAUGHLIN OF MAQUOKETA. SHE WAS A TEACHER FOR THE WESTERN DUBUQUE SCHOOL SYSTEM AND SUFFERED A MAJOR STROKE EARLY IN HER LIFE.
