IN THE 90'S AGAIN TODAY AND NO RELIEF IN SIGHT.

REALLY, NOT MUCH NEWS THESE DAYS.

SUMMIT STREET RE-PAVING IS NEARLY COMPLETE AND LOOKS AND DRIVES WELL.

THE MAQUOKETA POLICE DEPARTMENT WILL BE HOSTING A FIRST-TIME EVENT NEXT MONTH.
IT'S CALLED 2005 NATIONAL NIGHT OUT....AMERICAN'S NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME. THE EVENT
IS SPONSORED NATIONALLY BY THE NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF TOWN WATCH AND THE US DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. IT WILL BE AUGUST 2ND. IN MAQUOKETA, POLICE WILL HOST THE EVENT FROM 5 TO 8 P.M. AT THE LITTLE BEAR PARK. THERE WILL BE ACTIVITIES FOR KIDS, PRIZES WILL BE GIVEN AWAY AND THERE WILL BE HAMBURGERS COOKED UP BY THE JACKSON COUNTY CATTLEMEN'S ASSOCIATION. THE MAQUOKETA FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL HAVE WATER GAMES. CHIEF BRAD KORANDA SAID IT'S A FAMILY NIGHT OUT IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT. THE DEWITT POLICE DEPARTMENT HAS BEEN PARTICIPATING IN THE EVENT FOR A FEW YEARS.

MAQUOKETA POLICE ARE LOOKING FOR A STOLEN VEHICLE. SOMETIME OVERNIGHT TUESDAY NIGHT, OR EARLY WEDNESDAY MORNING, CHRIS MEINECKE SAID HIS GREEN DODGE PICKUP WAS STOELEN FROM HIS INSURANCE BUSINESS OFFICE AT 801 WEST PLATT STREET. IT HAS A VALUE OF
$12,000. I WONDER IF IT IS INSURED?

COURT NEWS: ROBERT HERRING, AGE 33, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED WITH OWI LATE LAST NIGHT ON WEST QUARRY STREET IN MAQUOKETA. HE REFUSED CHEMICAL TESTING.

GARY JON HOPPES, 58, OF ELY AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED MONDAY AT A HOSPITAL IN SYCAMORE, ILLINOIS. HE WAS A 1965 GRAD OF MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL. SERVED IN THE US NAVY AND WAS IN EDUCATION OVER 30 YEARS. SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, DONNA AND 2 SISTERS, INCLUDING LINDA ATKINSON OF LOST NATION.

I WILL NOT HAVE A REPORT TOMORROW. BIG DAY FOR THE VOY FAMILY. SON DAVE GETS
MARRIED TOMORROW NIGHT AT FIRST LUTHERAN CHURCH HERE IN MAQUOKETA, TO MARSHSA MARSHALL.
DAVE HAS HIS OWN COMPUTER BUSINESS AND WORKS FOR ME AT KMAQ AND THE THEATRE AND MARSHA IS AN RN. SECOND MARRIAGE FOR BOTH. MARSHA HAS FOUR CHILDREN, DAVE NONE.
IT SOUNDS LIKE IT WILL BE A SMALL, PRETTY WEDDING. THANKS GOODNESS, FIRST LUTHERAN HAS AIR-CONDITIONING.

THANKS FOR THE VISIT.

DENNIS VOY
