2/10 OF AN INCH OF RAIN AROUND 7 LAST NIGHT....CAME DOWN PRETTY HARD FOR ABOUT 15 MINUTES. SUNNY, BREEZY AND COOL TODAY.

THE MAQUOKETA COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD HIRED A NEW HIGH SCHOOL ASSISTANT PRINCIPAL AND ACTIVITY DIRECTOR AT THEIR MEETING MONDAY NIGHT. HE IS BRIAN MORETZ AND HE STARTS HIS DUTIES AUGUST 1ST. HE WILL BE PAID $55,000 A YEAR. THE HIGH SCHOOL ADMINISTRATION TEAM WAS CHANGED FOR NEXT SCHOOL YEAR. DENNIS STREETS WILL REMAIN A PART-TIME ADMINISTRATOR AS DEAN OF STUDENTS. CURT NELSON, WHO HAS BEEN ACTIVITY DIRECTOR, WILL RESUME HIS FULL-TIME TEACHING JOB IN THE INDUSTRIAL ARTS DEPARTMENT. MORETZ HAS BEEN TJE ADEL-DESOTA-MINBURN ACTIVITIES DIRECTOR FOR THE PAST TWO YEARS. MORETZ IS MARRIED AND HAS TWO YOUNG CHILDREN AND WILL MOVE TO MAQUOKETA THIS SUMMER.
IN ANOTHER PERSONNEL ISSUE, DENNIS SCOTT'S HOURS WERE INCREASED FROM 30 TO 40 HOURS A WEEK AS A CUSTODIAN. HE WILL WORK AT BOTH THE MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL. THE EXTRA HOURS WERE NEEDED BECAUSE OF THE RECENT BUILDING ADDITIONS AT BOTH LOCATIONS.
A RESIGNATION WAS RECEIVED FROM SONYA HURLEY AS THE CARDINAL AND SACRED HEART TITLE 1 INSTRUCTOR. HURLEY'S HUSBAND, PAT, HAS TAKEN A JOB WITH A BANK IN FAIRFIELD, IOWA AND THE FAMILY WILL BE MOVING FROM MAQUOKETA.
AND BOARD MEMBERS ACCEPTED THE RESIGNATION OF MIKE MACKLIN AS MIDDLE SCHOOL LANGUAGE ARTS INSTRUCTOR. MACKLIN HAS WORKED FOR THE DISTRICT FOR 26 YEARS AND WILL BECOME A READING CONSULTANT FOR THE GRANT WOOD AREA EDUCATION AGENCY BASED IN CEDAR RAPIDS.

THE JACKSON COUNTY BOARD OF SUPERVISORS LEARNED YESTERDAY THAT IT WILL COST MORE ($13,767) TO HOUSE THE RESIDENTS WHO HAVE BEEN LIVING AT THE ANDREW JACKSON COUNTY CARE FACILITY WHICH IS CLOSING. THE 19 RESIDENTS HAVE TO BE MOVED. ELEVEN ARE JACKSON COUNTY RESIDENTS. IF SOME RETURN TO THEIR HOMES, THE COST COULD BE LESS. WHRE THEY GO IS UP TO A PHYSICIAN AND CASE WORKERS. LYNN BOPES, COUNTY MENTAL HEALTH DIRECTOR, SAID SHE WOULD HIRE JANE DUBERT AS A NEW CASE WORKER.
THE SUPERVIORS ARE WAITING FOR AN APPRAISAL OF THE 8 ACRES AND BUILDINGS LOCATED NEAR ANDREW.

SUNDAY, A DELMAR MAN AND A MAQUOKETA MAN WERE THROWN FROM A MOTORCYCLE THEY WERE RIDING AT DUBUQUE. RONALD GRANDICK, 50, OF DELMAR AND WILL GRANDICK, 24, OF MAQUOKETA, WERE TAKEN TO FINLEY HOSPITAL WHRE BOTH WERE TREATRED AND RELEASED.

JENNIFER AND MICHAEL ISBELL OF DELMAR HAD A GIRL JUNE 8TH AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. GRANDPARENTS ARE KATHLEEN SAMS OF DELMAR AND DEB NISSEN OF MAQUOKETA.

BRIAN AND JESSE IHRIG HAD A BOY TUESDAY AT MERCY IN DUBUQUE.
GRANDPARENTS ARE CRAIG AND WENDY WINEGAR OF MAQUOKETA AND GARY AND KATHY IHRIG OF MAQUOKETA.
