RAINING AND COLD TODAY IN IOWA.

THE FARM BUREAU ANNUAL MEETING WAS HELD SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE FAIRGROUNDS IN MAQUOKETA. I WENT AND HERE ARE SOME HIGHLIGHTS.
500 ENJOYED A RIB-EYE DINNER. THE NEW BEEF QUEEN IS CASSIE GREGORICH OF BELLEVUE AND BEEF PRINCESS IS CRYSTAL WATTERS, OF MAQUOKETA,DAUGHTER OF MR.AND MRS.BRIAN WATTERS. MATT GERLACH IS A NEW BEEF AMBASSADOR...HE IS A FRESHMAN AT MHS AND SON OF THE PAUL GERLACHS OF
MAQUOKETA. LARRY JOHNSON, WHO FARMS 15-HUNDRED ACRES EAST OF MAQUOKETA WAS THE OUTSTANDING YOUNG FARMER FOR 2004. THE BUSINESS ASSOCIATE AWARD WENT TO JOHN DAGUE IN MAQUOKETA, OWNER OF DAGUE EQUIPMENT AND BOB LARKEY, OF MAQUOKETA, OWNER OF MAQUOKETA SALES COMPANY WAS NAMED TO THE JACKSON COUNTY CATTLEMAN'S HALL OF FAME.

TWO MEN HAVE BEEN CHARGED WITH STEALING BEER FROM THE DEPOT BAR LAST WEEK. THEY ARE MITCHELL STREETS, AGE 23, OF MAQUOKETA AND TRAVIS STASKAL, AGE 23, ALSO OF MAQUOKETA.

MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.

COURT NEWS: ROBERT CLARK, AGE 25, OF MAQUOKETA WAS CHARGED WITH DOMESTIC ABUSE AFTER KICKING HIS GIRLFRIEND AT 12:30 YESTERDAY MORNING AT 197 CRESSLANE IN MAQUOKETA.

DAVID BREN, AGE 37, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH OWI LAST FRIDAY NIGHT. HIS BLOOD ALCOHOL LEVEL REGISTERED .358 WITH .08 AS THE LEGAL LIMIT.

MARTI WALSH, AGE 38, OF MAQUOKETA, WAS CHARGED WITH POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE AND POSSESSION OF DRUG PARAPHENALIA. HE WAS ARRESTED LAST SATURDAY NIGHT AT BILL'S TAP.

JAY AND TARA GOHLMANN OF BOSTON, MA ARE PARENTS OF A GIRL BORN SUNDAY AT BOSTON. GRANDPARENTS ARE FLORIAN AND KAREN STEFFEN OF MAQUOKETA.

SHARON SHILLING, AGE 61, OF MAQUOKETA,DIED FRIDAY AT CRESTRIDGE NURSING HOME AFTER A SHORT ILLNESS. SHE IS SURVIVED BY 3 DAUGHTERS IN MAQUOKETA, KATHY SHILLING AND KARI EVEN.

HARRY WIERSMA, AGE 85, OF BELLEVUE AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED SATURDAY AT THE NURSING HOME IN BELLEVUE. HE WAS A WORLD WAR 2 VET AND WORKED FOR CLINTON ENGINES FOR SEVERAL YEARS AND THEN WAS A WELDING SUPPLIES SALESMAN. HE IS SURVIVED BY A SON, JOHN,IN MINNESOTA AND A DAUGHTER, SHERI, IN RHOAD ISLAND.
