CLOUDY, COOL AND RAINY DAY TODAY. MORE RAIN COMING TOMORROW AND
SATURDAY.
AT THE CITY COUNCIL MEETING THIS WEEK, THE COUNCIL APPROVED REPAIRS TO THE MAQUOKETA VOLUNTEER FIRE DEPARTMENT AERIAL TRUCK. SOME CABLES NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT AN ESTIMATED COST OF $8,000. MOST OF THAT COST WILL COME FROM MONEY STILL LEFT OVER FROM THE "LOVE FOR FIREMEN" DONATIONS EARLIER THIS YEAR. THE CITY WILL PAY THE REST.
THE COUNCIL ALSO LEARNED THAT ALLIANCE WATER RESOURCES PERSONNEL ARE PAINTING THE CITY'S FIRE HYDRANTS. ALREADY 50 ARE PAINTED.
AND AT THE COUNCIL MEETING MONDAY NIGHT, THE COUNCIL APPROVED ROBB McCAULLEY AS THE NEW MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA HISTORIC PRESERVATION
COMMISSION.
MARGE YOCUM AND HER HUSBAND ARE VISITING MAQUOKETA. BOTH ARE RETIRED. SHE IS THE DAUGHTER OF THE LATE DUDLEY YOCUM AND VIRGINIA YOCUM. DUDLEY OWNED THE WESTERN AUTO STORE IN MAQUOKETA FOR MANY YEARS AND VIRGINIA MOVED FROM MAQUOKETA A COUPLE YEARS AGO TO LIVE NEAR HER SON IN DENVER, COLORADO. MARGE AND HER HUSBAND LIVED IN GEORGIA, THEN MOVED TO LAS VEGAS AND NOW ARE BACK IN GEORGIA. MARGE SAID HER MOTHER, AGE 90, IS DOING FINE IN COLORADO.
I SPOKE AT THE MAQUOKETA KIWANIS MEETING AT NOON TODAY AT THE DECKER HOTEL, ABOUT MY 50 YEARS IN MAQUOKETA WITH KMAQ, AND THEATRES. BOB GAVIN IS THE PRESIDENT. KEVIN BURNS IS THE BUSY TREASURER. MANY GOOD MEN AND WOMEN MEMBERS, AND THEY ARE ALWAYS BUSY WORKING ON PROJECTS TO BENEFIT THE COMMUNITY. SEPTEMBER THIRD, I SPEAK TO THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB. ALSO, REGARDING THE KMAQ 50TH, I WILL BE INTERVIEWED TUESDAY MORNING ON THE DERRY BROWNFIELD NATIONAL COMMON SENSE COALITION CALL-IN SHOW. ALSO, TUESDAY NIGHT, KMAQ WILL BE CONGRATULATED ON THE ST. LOUIS CARDINALS RADIO NETWORK, AND TUESDAY, THE DUBUQUE TELEGRAPH HERALD WILL DO A STORY ON KMAQ'S 50TH. A TH PHOTOGRAPHER WAS DOWN THIS MORNING TO GET A PHOTO OF ME AT THE MIC.
TUESDAY, AT FIVE DIFFERENT TIMES DURING THE DAY, WE'LL HAVE A DRAWING
FOR A $50 BILL ON KMAQ AM AND FM. SEPTEMBER FIRST, WE WILL DRAW FOR OUR AUGUST FREE RADIO. THEN, WILL STILL HAVE A RADIO TO GIVE AWAY
FOR SEPTEMBER, OCTOBER, NOVEMBER AND DECEMBER. TO BE ELIGIBLE, ONE
TIME ONLY, YOU NEED TO SEND IN OR EMAIL YOUR NAME, ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND APPROXIMATELY WHAT YEAR YOU STARTED LISTENING TO KMAQ.
WE SAW THE NEW MOVIE "THE ROCKER" LAST NIGHT AT VOY 2 THEATRE. PRETTY GOOD SHOW, ESPECIALLY IF YOU LIKE ROCK MUSIC. IT IS RATED PG-13.
IT OPENED NATION-WIDE LAST NIGHT.
THE CUBS ARE DOING WELL, BUT THE CARDINALS STILL HAVE A WILD-CARD CHANCE TO MAKE THE PLAYOFFS.
SEE THE NEW KMAQ STAFF PHOTO TAKEN THIS AFTERNOON. NEXT WEDNESDAY, IT WILL BE THE FRONT COVER OF THE SHOPPER IN MAQUOKETA. CLICK ON PHOTO TO ENLARGE IT.
TAKE IT EASY.
