SUNNY TODAY...HIGH IN LOW 30'S.
CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.
THE "MEN WHO CAN COOK" EVENT WAS A SUCCESS YESTERDAY AT THE FAIRGROUNDS. NEARLY 600 ATTENED AND ENJOYED A VARIETY OF GOOD FOOD, PREPARED BY MEN (WITH HELP FROM WIVES) MEMBERS OF THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB, MAQUOKETA OPTIMIST CLUB AND THE DELMAR LIONS CLUB.
THOSE ATTENDING, VOTED FOR THEIR FAVORITE DISHES.
WINNERS WERE: PAUL SEYFERT OF DELMAR LIONS WON FOR HIS CANDIED YAMS IN THE VEGETABLE SECTION. STEVE FLYNN AND HIS ROTARY COMMITEE OF 6, WON THE MAIN COURSE PRIZE FOR THEIR PORK LOIN, BAKED TO PERFECTION
(WITH SECRET HERBS AND SPICES) IN THE EAGLE'S CLUB OVENS.
ED TUBBS OF THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB WON THE DESSERT CATEGORY FOR HIS CHOCOLATE FONDUE. RON KNOCK OF THE MAQUOKETA OPTIMISTS WAS NAMED THE COOLIST COOK FOR HIS PICKLES ON A STICK. THE BLACK RIVER BAND OF MAQUOKETA, RED HENTON, AND DR. PETE ATENZA AS ELVIS, PEFORMED ON THE STAGE. GOOD FUN. AND EACH CLUB MADE SOME MONEY FOR THEIR TREASURY TO DO COMMUNITY PROJECTS. GOOD BET IT WILL BE REPEATED AGAIN NEXT YEAR. I WAS ON THE PORK LOIN COMMITEE, BUT HAD LITTLE TO DO WITH GETTING THE PRIZE, EXCEPT HELPING GUARD THE SECRET RECIPE FOR
DOING UP THE 16 EIGHT POUND LOINS.
