SUNNY AND WARM TODAY.....IN LOW 80'S. NO RAIN IN FORECAST FOR THE
NEXT 3 DAYS ... MAYBE LONGER.
THE MAQUOKETA GIRL'S SOFTBALL TEAM BEAT NORTH SCOTT LAST NIGHT
AT ELDRIDGE.....2 TO 1. IT WAS THEIR LAST REGULAR SEASON GAME AND THEY HAVE A RECORD OF 29 AND 6 GOING INTO THE TOURNAMENTS AND
ARE RANKED 9TH IN THE STATE.
MANY GAS STATIONS NOW REQUIRE PAYMENT BEFORE FILLING. HERE IS WHY.
LAST NIGHT AROUND 9:30 SOMEONE PUMPED $71.40 IN GASOLENE AND LEFT WITHOUT PAYING AT KJ'S ON WEST PLATT IN MAQUOKETA.
TWENTY MINUTES WEST OF MAQUOKETA, THE WYOMING FAIR IS THIS WEEKEND.
A PARADE STARTS IT OFF TOMORROW NIGHT AND WE'LL BE BROADCASTING THE PARADE ON KMAQ. AND TWENTY MINUTES EAST OF MAQUOKETA, THE GREAT RIVER THRESHERS ANNUAL THRESHING DAYS IS THIS WEEKEND, ALSO STARTING WITH A PARADE TOMORROW NIGHT. ALSO TOMORROW NIGHT THE 15TH ANNUAL BARN DANCE AND BAR-B-Q (WITH FIREWORKS) AT THE
MARK MILLER FARM JUST NORTHWEST OF MAQUOKETA.
PREMIER HOME FURNISHINGS (RETAIL AND RENTAL FURNITURE STORE)
HAS MERGED WITH AARON SALES AND LEASE AT DUBUQUE. PREMIER, AT 418
NORTH MAIN IN MAQUOKETA WAS THE LOCATION FOR MANY YEARS OF
BETTER HOMES FURNITURE AND THEN OWL FURNITURE. SEVERAL TRUCKS
HAULED FURNITURE FROM THE BUILDING YESTERDAY AND TODAY..... AND
THE LOCAL STORE WILL BE CLOSED. SO, NOW THERE IS JUST ONE FURNITURE STORE LEFT IN JACKSON COUNTY, ON EAST PLATT STREET IN MAQUOKETA AND I BELIEVE IT DEALS MOSTLY IN RENTAL OR LEASE TO OWN FURNITURE. AT ONE TIME, MAQUOKETA HAD 3 OR 4 REGULAR RETAIL
FURNITURE STORES AND THERE WAS ALSO ONE IN BELLEVUE AND ONE IN
PRESTON. THE CLOSEST REGULAR FURNITURE STORE TO MAQUOKETA IS
PETERSON'S IN DEWITT. WOULD BE NICE IF THEY WOULD EXPAND TO
MAQUOKETA. HOPE THE CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONTACTS THEM.
NEXT WEEK, THE CLINTON COUNTY FAIR IN DEWITT AND CEDAR COUNTY FAIR IN TIPTON ARE ON AT THE SAME TIME. AGAIN, AS IN MANY PAST YEARS,
KMAQ WILL BROADCAST "LIVE" FROM BOTH. IT WILL BE A BUSY WEEK
FOR LEIGHTON AND I COVERING THOSE TWO COUNTY FAIRS.
HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
