A BODY FOUND IN A WOODED AREA AT RURAL LOST NATION LAST THURSDAY HAS BEEN IDENTIFIED AS ADRIAN EWALD, AGE 52, OF KINGSTON, ILLINOIS. HE HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE JULY 1ST. DENTAL RECORDS WERE USED TO IDENTIFY THE BODY. HIS REMAINS WERE FOUND NEAR HIS MOTORCYCLE BY A FARMER AND THE STATE MEDICAL EXAMINERS REPORT SAYS EWALD DIED OF A SELF-INFLICTED GUN SHOT.
A MAQUOKETA MAN, LYNN KASEMODEL, AGE 44, IS AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITALS IN IOWA CITY AFTER FALLING OFF A 20-FOOT CLIFF LAST NIGHT ABOUT 6 O'CLOCK, WHILE DEER HUNTING. HE WAS HUNTING WITH KELLY OBERBRECKLING ON PROPERTY NEAR IRON HILL. HE WAS GOING TO RETRIEVE A FLASHLIGHT AND WALKED OFF THE 20 FOOT CLIFF.
RESCUE SQUAD MEMBERS HAD TO FIND HIM AND THEN HAUL H IM ABOUT 200 YARDS TO A WAITING AMBULANCE.
HE IS BEING TREATED FOR SERIOUS INJURIES BUT NO CONDITION REPORT WAS AVAILABLE TODAY FROM THE HOSPITAL.
THE DEPARTMENT OF CRIMINAL INVESTIGATION AND A STATE FIRE MARSHALL ARE INVESTIGATING AN EARLY SUNDAY MORNING FIRE AT A MAQUOKETA HOME. THE HOME AT 305 S. OLIVE WAS GUTTED BY FIRE AT ABOUT 3:30 A.M. SUNDAY. NO ONE WAS AT HOME AT THE TIME. NEIGHBORS SAY THE HOME IS OWNED BY SHELLY RUSSELL AND APPARENTLY RENTED BY KELLY NIMS OR HER BROTHER, BLAINE NIMS. FIRECHIEF MARK BECK SAID FLAMES WERE SHOOTING FROM EVERY WINDOW WHEN FIREMEN ARRIVED. IT TOOK ABOUT 3 HOURS TO COMPLETELY PUT OUT THE FIRE. NEIGHBORS SAY THEY SAW A MAN RUN FROM THE HOUSE ABOUT 1 A.M. SUNDAY. A PICTURE OF THE HOUSE

NOAH MOSES, AGE 23, OF MAQUOKETA IS IN THE JACKSON COUNTY DETENTION CENTER ON A $6,500 CASH BOND ON CHARGES OF BURGLARY IN THE 3RD OFFENSE. MAQUOKETA POLICE SAY HE GOT INTO THE CITY OF MAQUOKETA COMPOUND YARD FRIDAY NIGHT AND ALLEGEDLY TOOK REGISTRATION AND INSURANCE PAPERWORK FROM A VEHICLE AS WELL AS KEYS FROM A VEHICLE.
PATRICK SPAIN OF MAQUOKETA APPEARED IN MAGISTRATE COURT ON AN AUGUST 30TH CHARGE OF POSSESSION OF A CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE, MARIJUANA.
MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.
RAYMOND DERGANZ, AGE 82, OF MAQUOKETA DIED SUNDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL. HE FARMED FOR MANY YEARS NORTH OF MAQUOKETA AND ALSO WORKED AT THE MAQUOKETA LIGHT PLANT AS AN OPERATOR FOR OVER 17 YEARS, RETIRING IN 1982. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, GERTRUDE AND 1 SON AND 3 DAUGHTERS.
MAQUOKETA SENIOR TIFFANY HELMBRECHT HAS SIGNED A LETTER OF INTENT TO PLAY VOLLEYBALL AT MARQUETTE UNIVERITY IN MILWAUKEE. THIS PAST SEASON, SHE GARNERED ALL CONFERENCE HONORS. SHE WAS ALSO NAMED TO THE WAMAC CONFERENCE ALL-ACADEMIC TEAM.
