WE HAD GREAT WEATHER OVER THE WEEKEND AND TODAY WAS ANOTHER BEAUTIFUL DAY. SUNNY TODAY WITH A HIGH OF 76. THE REST OF THE WEEK TOO, WITH A CHANCE OF SOME RAIN ON THURSDAY. AND RIGHT NOW, IT LOOKS LIKE THE LABOR DAY WEEKEND WILL BE NICE.
A CROP DUSTER PLANE, OPERATED BY A TENNESSEE MAN, WENT DOWN IN A HAY FIELD OWNED BY BILL MILLER, RURAL MAQUOKETA, JUST BEFORE 4 YESTERDAY AFTERNOON. THE PILOT WAS NOT INJURED AND THERE WAS MINOR DAMAGE TO THE PLANE.
THE MAQUOKETA EDUCATION ASSOCIATION WILL HOST A CANDIDATE FORUM FOR CANDIDATES FOR THE MAQUOKETA SCHOOL BOARD, AT 5 P.M. THIS WEDNESDAY AT THE MAQUOKETA CITY HALL. THE SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATES ARE INCUMBENT ANNE HAWKS AND CHALLENGER GEORGE HOUSTON. BOTH HAVE YARD SIGNS AROUND TOWN. AND THAT RACE IS STARTING TO GET INTERESTING.
ALSO RUNNING, FOR RE-ELECTION, UNOPPOSED, LONGTIME BOARD MEMBER,
BILL SCHWENKER.
A WELL KNOWN AREA VOLUNTEER FIREMAN, DICK GRIMM, AGE 73, OF CHARLOTTE,
DIED YESTERDAY. HE WAS A FIREFIGHTER FOR 50 YEARS.
ANOTHER SAD NOTE. A MAQUOKETA HIGH SCHOOL SENIOR, DEREK ARENSDORF, AGE 17, DIED LAST NIGHT AT HIS HOME IN RURAL BALDWIN. HIS COMPLETED OBITUARY CAN BE READ NOW AT www.carsonandson.com
TOMORROW IS THE OFFICIAL 50TH BIRTHDAY OF KMAQ. MORE ABOUT THAT WITH THE PHOTO BELOW.
AND SEVERAL OTHER PHOTOS FROM THE SUNDAY, FIRST LUTHERAN OUTDOOR SERVICE AND POTLUCK, ARE ALSO BELOW.
REMEMBER...ALL PHOTOS ON THIS DAILY REPORT CAN BE ENLARGED BY JUST CLICKING ON THEM.
HAVE A NICE MONDAY NIGHT AND TUESDAY.

KMAQ IS 50 TUESDAY, AUGUST 26TH. RAY SHIELDS, OUR MORNING ANNOUNCER AND CHIEF ENGINEER, DID THE SIGN-ON SHIFT FROM 5:30 A.M. UNTIL 9. STAN BARTON, WAS THE NEWS DIRECTOR AND READ THE MORNING NEWS AT 8 AND THEN
SPUN RECORDS UNTIL 9. I CAME ON (THAT'S ME ABOVE AT AGE 19) AT 9 A.M. AND
WENT TO 11. THEN RAY WAS BACK FROM 11 A.M. UNTIL 1 P.M. STATION MANAGER BOB BROWN WAS ON FROM 1 UNTIL 2 AND I CAME BACK AT 2 AND WENT UNTIL SIGN-OFF AT 7. LONG DAY, BUT IT WAS FUN. GITTE BOLLINGER WAS OUR
RECEPTIONIST, DUANE WILLEY OUR SALESMAN, JANE BEAN OUR BOOKKEEPER,
AND NATE GOETZ FROM MONROE, WISCONSIN, WAS PART-OWNER AND CAME DOWN TO MAQUOKETA WEEKLY. THE OTHER CO-OWNERS, HIS BROTHER AND ANOTHER PARTNER, ARE NO LONGER LIVING. ALSO DECEASED, BOLLINGER, SHIELDS, AND WILLEY. I DON'T KNOW WHERE STAN IS, BUT BELIEVE HE IS STILL LIVING. BOB BROWN AND HIS WIFE ELAINE LIVE IN FORT ATKINSON, WISCONSIN. NATE GOETZ AND HIS WIFE RUTH LIVE IN FLORIDA. WE WERE AN AM STATION ONLY, WITH FM COMING ON THE AIR IN 1967. IN 1958, WE STARTED AT 136 1/2 SOUTH MAIN STREET AND MOVED TO OUR PRESENT LOCATION IN 1970, FOLLOWING A NEXT DOOR FIRE THAT DID DAMAGE AT KMAQ. THE DUBUQUE TELEGRAPH HERALD HAS A STORY
ABOUT THE KMAQ 50TH TOMORROW, AND YOU CAN READ IT ON LINE. ALSO,
A VIDEO THEY DID WITH ME THIS MORNING. WE ARE HAVING A STAFF AND
FAMILY DINNER PARTY TOMORROW NIGHT. LOOKING FORWARD TO A FUN

WE HOPE YOU'LL STAY WITH US IN THE YEAR AHEAD AND WE PROMISE TO CONTINUE TO DO OUR BEST TO BE YOUR RADIO STATION.
