IT HAS BEEN HOT IN MAQUOKETA...AROUND 90 BOTH YESTERDAY AND TODAY AND MORE TOMORROW.
NOT MUCH HAPPENING "NEWS-WISE".
LAST NIGHT, THE MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL GAVE THE GO-AHEAD TO TALK TO AN ARCHITECT TO START WORK ON DESIGN OF THE NEW INDOOR POOL AND GYMNASIUM PROJECT, COMMONLY CALL THE ARC.
THE ARC COMMITTEE REPORTED LAST NIGHT THAT THEY HAVE RAISED $4.4 MILLION IN PLEDGES AND CASH AND ARE ESTIMATING THE FACILITY WILL COST $4.5 MILLION. HOWEVER, NOW THEY ARE LOOKING AT RAISING $5 MILLION TO INCLUDE INTEREST THEY WILL NEED FOR THE CITY TO PAY FOR THE BONDS.
THEY HOPE TO START CONSTRUCTION IN THE SPRING.
FORMER MAQUOKETA TEACHER FRANK RANDALL TOOK MORE HEAT AT THE SUPERVIORS MEETING THIS MORNING FOR NOT CLEANING UP HIS PROPERTY QUICKLY ENOUGH ON ROCKDALE ROAD. THE 3 SUPERVIORS TOLD HIM THAT NOT ENOUGH CLEAN-UP HAS BEEN DONE SO FAR AND THEY WANTED HIM TO GET AGGRESSIVE AND MEET THE AUGUST 1ST DEADLINE OR THEY WOULD TAKE LEGAL ACTION. SUPERVISOR "BUCK" KOOS SAID HE'S BEEN BY RANDALL'S PROPERTY AND SAW 19 VEHICLES, THREE CARTS, AND TWO HOUSE TRAILERS.
SHARON BUCK OF BALDWIN DIED TODAY AND HER OBITUARY IS ON THE LAHEY FUNEARL HOME WEB SITE.
SHE SURVIVORS INCLUDE 3 SISTERS IN MAQUOKETA....MARLENE BENDIXEN, DIANNE FULLER AND DENISE SWANSON AND 3 BROTHERS, BILL AND DOUGLAS SCHMITZ OF MAQUOKETA AND GREG OF BALDWIN.
THE MAQUOKETA BOYS BASEBALL TEAM SPLIT A DOUBLEHEADER WITH INDEPENDENCE HERE LAST NIGHT AND PLAY AGAIN TONIGHT AT WYOMING.
DAILY REPORT READER ROGER WARD OF CALIFORNIA REALLY SURPRISED ME THIS MORNING WHEN I OPENED THE MAIL AND FOUND A CHECK TO THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY CLUB FOR $100 TO BUY 20 DUCKS THAT WILL RACE JUNE 21ST. HIS CHECK LISTS HIS ADDRESS AS APPLE VALLEY BUT HIS NOTE WITH THE CHECK, LISTS HIS RESIDENCE AS PALM DESERT. MAYBE THEY ARE CLOSE TOGETHER. HE PURCHASED THEM FOR HIS NIECES AND NEPHEWS....ELIZABETH DITCH, GABRIEL DITCH, DEVEN BROOKS, ADDISON BROOKS, AND MACKENZIE BROOKS. I THANK YOU ROGER....AND THE MAQUOKETA ROTARY THANKS YOU. WE WILL HAVE A MEETING AT NOON TOMORROW AND I'LL BE TALKING ABOUT HIM WHEN I GIVE MY DUCK RACE REPORT.
THANKS FOR THE VISIT.
