FRIDAY DAILY

A FREE DINNER FOR VETERANS, FOR THE 2ND YEAR IN A ROW, AT THE
JACKSON COUNTY SENIOR CENTER AT 11:30 THIS MORNING.
THERE WERE ABOUT 25 VETERANS AT THE DINNER, WITH THE "REGULAR" SENIORS THAT ATTEND THE MONDAY-FRIDAY DINNER.    BECAUSE OF BIGGER THAN NORMAL ATTENDANCE, SOME VOLUNTEER HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
HELPED SERVE EVERYONE AT THEIR TABLE.      ENJOYED BY ALL,  A DELICIOUS PORK DINNER WITH ALL THE EXTRAS AND ICE CREAM AND COOKIE FOR DESSERT.
THE EMCEE FOR TODAY'S EVENT WAS GAY STORLIE, MANAGER OF THE SENIOR CENTER.        SHE, BECAUSE SHE WANTED A FULLTIME JOB, IS
LEAVING  HER POSITION NOVEMBER 30TH.
PIANO MUSIC BEFORE DINNER PROVIDED BY BECKY VOSS OF MILES.
PENNY PEARCY OF MAQUOKETA TALKED ABOUT THE "QUILTS OF VALOR"
PROGRAM THAT SHE HAS BEEN INVOLVED WITH FOR 3 YEARS.    "QUILTS
FOR VALOR" WAS STARTED IN THIS COUNTRY FOR VETERANS IN 2003 AND
SINCE THEN, OVER 100,000 QUILTS HAVE BEEN PRESENTED TO VETERANS.
LOCALLY, MOST OF THE QUILTS ARE MADE BY THE "TOWN AND COUNTRY
QUILTERS" WHO DO MOST OF THEIR WORK AT THE SENIOR CENTER.
TODAY'S VETERANS DINNER WAS PROVIDED BY AL AND ARLENE WEIUP OF RURAL NASHVILLE-BALDWIN.    THIS IS THE SECOND YEAR IN A ROW AL AND
ARLENE HAVE PAID FOR THE VETERAN MEALS.   AL, A TRUCKER, WAS NOT
ABLE TO ON HAND TODAY.   ARLENE TOLD EVERYONE THAT HER FATHER DIED IN WORLD WAR II AND STEP-FATHER WAS AT PEARL HARBOR WHEN IT
WAS ATTACKED.   SHE HAS HAD SEVERAL OTHER MEMBERS OF HER
FAMILY IN THE MILITARY OVER THE YEARS.

LAST NIGHT AROUND 9:30, THEY WERE STILL PUTTING DOWN PAVER BRICKS
DOWNTOWN.

SEE A MOVIE THIS WEEKEND.   THE TWO TOP MOVIES IN THE COUNTRY ARE SHOWING NOW IN MAQUOKETA.
