THE TUG-OF-WAS CONTEST YESTERDAY AT "PIONEER DAY" AT THE FAIRGROUNDS WAS WON BY SCHUELLEER AND SONS CONSTRUCTION IN MAQUOKETA. TOP PRIZE WAS $100. THERE WERE 3 OTHER TEAMS.

BIG COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT WITH A LONG AGENDA.

JOHN ROTH, AGE 60, OF ST. JOSEPHY, MISSOURI, AND FORMERLY OF MAQUOKETA, DIED YESTERDAY AFTER A BRIEF ILLNESS. HE WAS A LICENSED MASAGE THERAPIST AT THE YMCA FOR 39 YEARS. HE IS SURVIVED BY A BROTHER, RICHARD ROTH OF MAQUOKETA.

ESTHER TIMMERMAN, AGE 92, OF DUBUQUE, DIED LAST WEEK. SHE AND HER HUSBAND RAN "THE CIRCLE" IN EAST DUBUQUE IN THE LATE 50'S AND THEN BUILDT THE POPULAR "TIMMERMAN'S SUPPER CLUB" IN EAST DUBUQUE IN 1962 AND RAN IT FOR MANY YEARS. AFTER HER HUSBAND DIED, SHE ADDED A MOTEL NEXT TO THE RESTAURANT.
THE RESTAURANT IS STILL A NICE PLACE TO DINE, OVERLOOKING DUBUQUE AND THE MIGHTY MISSISSIPPI.

TAKE CARE.
