THURSDAY

THE MAQUOKETA AMERICAN POST 75  CELEBRATED IT'S 100TH ANNIVERSARY LAST NIGHT AT THE TIMBER CENTER ON EAST PLATT STREET IN MAQUOKETA.
150 LEGIONAIRES AND VETERANS (AND SPOUSES} ENJOYED A FREE DINNER AND PROGRAM WITH MUSIC AFTER.     I'M A POST 75 MEMBER AND TOOK SOME PHOTOS.
THE HEAD TABLE.    IN THE MIDDLE, BONNIE MITCHELL, MAIN SPEAKER....
POST 75 ADUJANT CLIFF MERRICK.....AND POST 75 COMMANDER GERALD WEISS.
THE MAQUOKETA POST 75 BAND.    PHARMACIST HAROLD HINCKLEY WAS THE
TALL DRUM MAJOR, FRONT AND CENTER.
A NICE CELEBRATION IN MAQUOKETA  LAST  NIGHT.

HERE, IN THE KMAQ-AM AND FM 92.5 STUDIO AND
CONTROL ROOM IS GRANDPA TOM MESSERLI.
TOM IS OUR LONG TIME PART TIME ENGINEER FOR
KMAQ.     HE KEEPS THE STATIONS ON-THE-AIR
(INCLUDING THE NEW 92.5 KMAQ BELLEVUE FM) AND
HE ALSO KEEPS THE COMPUTERS RUNNING AS THEY SHOULD.
LOOKS LIKE HE'S  STARTING TO TRAIN GRANDSON LANDON MELVOLD OF DUBUQUE, THE SON OF TIM MELVOLD AND HILIARY.   LANDON HAS A YOUNGER BROTHER TOO.
TIM'S MOTHER IS KMAQ "JUST TALK" HOST SHERI
MELVOLD.    WILL LANDON BE AN ENGINEER FOR SURE OR AN ANNOUNCER LIKE GRANDMA SHERI?   TIME WILL TELL.   HIS DAD TIM WAS A KMAQ STUDENT ANNOUNCER AT KMAQ ABOUT 20 YEARS AGO, AND NOW IS A BIG SHOT WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF DUBUQUE.      YES...LANDON'S GRANDFATHER
DOUG, A RETIRED NEWSPAPER MAN, MIGHT HAVE
OTHER IDEAS FOR HIM.    AND CERTAINLY HIS
LATE GREAT-GRANDFATHER BOB MELVOLD WOULD
WANT TO SEE HIM BE A NEWSPAPER MAN.
TO END THIS STORY, I RECALL BACK WHEN KMAQ
STARTED ALMOST 61 YEARS AGO, BOB MEVOLD
PREDICTED THAT KMAQ WOULD LAST 6 MONTHS.
AND MY PREDICTION IS THAT LANDON WILL SOME
DAY WORK IN A FIELD THAT HAS ALL WEEKENDS
OFF.
