MONDAY DAILY


FRANK ELLENZ, MAQUOKETA PUBLIC WORKS DIRECTOR AND KEY LOCAL
MAN IN THE DOWNTOWN  "STREETSCAPE"  PROJECT IS SHOWN ABOVE
AS THE "EMCEE"  THIS AFTERNOON FOR THE "YELLOW CONSTRUCTION- TAPE RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY"  AT THE CORNER OF MAIN AND PLATT IN DOWNTOWN MAQUOKETA, MAQUOKETA'S BUSIEST INTERSECTION.
TODAY, AFTER SEVERAL WEEKS, IT WAS RE-OPENED TO TRAFFIC.
 MAYOR DON SCHWENKER THANKED ALL THE BUSINESS PLACES FOR THEIR
PATIENCE DURING CONSTRUCTION.   AND THANKED THE PUBLIC THAT
CONTINUED TO SHOP MAQUOKETA.    THE PROJECT IS NO WHERE NEAR
COMPLETED, WITH PLEASANT AND MAIN, EAST AND WEST PLEASANT,
AND SOUTH SOUTH MAIN STILL UNDER RE-CONSTRUCTION.    TODAY'S EVENT WAS A GOAL, ON TARGET, TO GET THE BUSY INTERSECTION OPEN,
WHICH INCLUDES THE TRAFFIC OF IOWA HIGHWAY 64.   NOW TRAFFIC FLOW
WILL BE BETTER UNTIL ALL THE PROJECT IS COMPLETED IN LATE NOVEMBER.
LUCAS KLUEVER, OWNER AND MANAGER OF THE CONSTRUCTION FIRM
ALSO THANKED MANY TODAY, INCLUDING HIS EMPLOYEES BEHIND HIM.
AND THANKED HIS WIFE AND 5 YOUNG CHILDREN WHO WERE PRESENT.
HE ALSO THANKED IIW ENGINEERS FOR THEIR WORK ON THE PROJECT.
ABOVE IS DAN SCHLUETER OF IIW ENGINEERING FIRM, WHO HAS BEEN HERE EVERY DAY AS THE INSPECTOR OF THE PROJECT.    WHEN SOMETHING IS DONE, HE IS THE ONE THAT APPROVES IT, OR CAN MAKE CHANGES.   HE CRUISES UP AND DOWN THE STREET IN A GOLF CART.
BELOW, TWO OF THE MANY THAT CUT THE RIBBON TODAY (ELLENZ SAID
ANYONE COULD HELP CUT IT)...... IIW ENGINEERS, JOHN WANDSNIDER (MIDDLE) AND ANDY GOEDKEN (RIGHT).

A NICE TURN-OUT FOR THE CEREMONY THIS AFTERNOON AT 5 AND BROADCAST "LIVE" ON KMAQ AM AND FM BY LEIGHTON HEPKER.
MAYOR DON TOLD ME THAT LATE THIS NOVEMBER DURING THE CHAMBER
"IT'S A WONDERFUL WORLD" EVENT, THEY ARE PLANNING ANOTHER RIBBON-CUTTING CEREMONY, CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION
OF ALL THE WORK ON  "STREETSCAPE.




WORK HAS STARTED ON IT...MT. HOPE CEMETERY IN BACKGROUND.
IT IS TO THE BACK OF LOT.
IT IS GOING TO BE NICE!   THEY STILL NEED LOTS OF MONEY TO
COMPLETE IT.   BUY A PAVER BRICK WITH YOUR NAME ON IT
AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK.

THERE WAS A GOOD TURNOUT THIS PAST WEEKEND FOR THE MHS
CLASS OF 1966....50TH REUNION.   SOME TRAVELED A LONG
WAY.   ABOVE DON MEYER AND WIFE PHYLIS.   DON'S PARENTS
WERE ARNOLD AND HELEN AND HIS SISTER WAS MY LATE WIFE
NANCY.    HE LIVES IN CORN, OKLAHOMA, RETIRED BUTCHER THEN
INSURANCE MAN.   ALSO COMING A LONG WAY, JEFF ALLEN OF
AUSTIN, TEXAS.  HIS DAD, WALT, BUILDT THE 61 DRIVE-IN THEATRE
SOUTH OF MAQUOKETA  IN 1950.     PHOTO ABOVE TAKEN AT BLUFF LAKE.

"HELLO DOLLY" IN 1978 WAS ONE OF THE MANY GREAT PPP HITS.
