KMAQ PART TIME ANNOUNCER FOR TWELVE YEARS, JIM KELLOGG, AGE 76, OF
LOST NATION, DIED THIS MORNING AT HIS HOME AFTER A LONG BATTLE WITH
LUNG CANCER.
JIM WORKED FOR TV STATIONS IN MILWAUKEE UNTIL RETIRING AND MOVING TO
LOST NATION. HIS WIFE, SHIRLEY, HAS FAMILY IN THIS AREA.
SERVICES ARE PENDING AT THE CARSON FUNERAL HOME IN MAQUOKETA.
HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS WIFE, SHIRLEY, WHO IS THE RECEPTIONEST AT THE MAQUOKETA STATE BANK MAIN BUILDING AND SURVIVED ALSO BY CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN.
JIM, UNTIL THIS PAST SUMMER, WAS THE AFTERNOON ANNOUNCER ON KMAQ-AM,
PLAYING HIS FAVORITE MUSIC, CLASSIC COUNTRY. HIS FAVORITE SINGER WAS THE LATE JOHNNY CASH AND HE PLAY A SONG OR TWO BY JOHNNY EVERY DAY.
JIM LOVED FOOD AND WAS AN EXPERT COOK HIMSELF. HE ALWAYS PREPARED
THE THANKSGIVING FEAST FOR HIS FAMILY, INCLUDING THE DESSERTS.
HE TREATED US MANY TIMES HERE AT THE STATION. HE ALSO LOVED TO EAT OUT WITH SHIRLEY AND LOVED PIZZA, ESPECIALLY GENO'S AT PRESTON. THE LAST
TIME WE DINED WITH JIM AND SHIRLEY WAS AT GENO'S. HE ALSO OVER THE
YEARS, KNITTED MANY (OVER A HUNDRED) SWEATERS. AND HE WAS PROUD OF
HIS FOUR DOGS. THERE IS A PHOTO OF JIM ON KMAQ'S WEB SITE.
MY SYMPATHY IS EXTENDED TO SHIRLEY AND THE REST OF HIS FAMILY.
HE WAS LIKED BY EVERYONE HERE AT KMAQ (AND LISTENERS) AND WE HAVE
MISSED HIM SINCE HE QUIT WORKING LAST SUMMER. WE ALL HAVE GOOD
MEMORIES OF FELLOW EMPLOYEE AND FRIEND, JIM. IN THE FUTURE, WHENEVER WE PLAY A JOHNNY CASH SONG, WE'LL THINK OF HIM.
ONE THE SPORTS SCENE..... THE MAQUOKETA GIRLS DEFEATED DYERSVILLE
BECKMAN LAST NIGHT, BUT THE BOYS LOST THEIR GAME AT DYERSVILLE.
THE SUN IS SHINING IN MAQUOKETA.
THANKS FOR CHECKING IN.
