THE MAQUOKETA YMCA HAS BEEN AWARDED A GRANT TO BUILD A WIND TURBINE TO SUPPLY ELECTRCITY FOR THE Y. WORD WAS RECEIVED LAST WEEK FROM THE IOWA OFFICE OF ENERGY INDEPENDENCE THAT THE MAQUOKETA YMCA WAS
AWARDED A GRANT FOR $156,836. THE MONEY WILL GO TOWARD THE
PURCHASE OF A 250 KW WIND TURBINE. THE BALANCE OF THE FINANCING
FOR THE PROJECT WILL BE FROM A ZERO-PERCENT LOAN FROM W.P.P.I.
MAQUOKETA MUNICIPAL ELECTRIC UTILITY PURCHASES WHOLESALE ELECTRICITY FROM W.P.P.I. IN WISCONSIN. NO WORD ON WHEN THE TURBINE WILL BE
INSTALLED AND PUT ON-LINE.
FAY MOELLER, WHO JUST RECENTLY TURNED 100, (NOV 15) DIED TODAY AT CRESTRIDGE NURSING HOME IN MAQUOKETA. UNTIL THIS FALL, HE LIVED IN HIS LONGTIME HOME (SINCE 1949) ON THE CORNER AT 802 EAST PLATT STREET.
MANY, MANY YEARS AGO, HE STARTED HIS OWN DANCE BAND, FAY AND HIS PALS, WHICH LATER WAS RENAMED THE TIMBER CITY COWBOYS AND STILL LATER, THE OKLAHOMA COWBOYS. HE PLAYED ALL OVER THE MIDWEST WITH THE COWBOYS. IN THOSE DAYS, HE PLAYED THE STRING BASS AND THE VIOLIN. RED HENTON OF MAQUOKETA ALSO PLAYED AWHILE IN HIS BAND. UP UNTIL THIS SUMMER, HE ENTERTAINED ONCE A MONTH AT CRESTRIDGE ON HIS CLAVINOA. ONE OF HIS FAVORITE SONGS WAS "WALTZ ACROSS TEXAS". PRIOR TO RETIRING, HE WORKED FOR THE POST OFFICE AND WAS A SCHOOL BUS DRIVER FOR OVER 20 YEARS. HE HAS BEEN A REGULAR LISTENER SINCE KMAQ WENT ON THE AIR IN 1958. HE WAS 49 THEN. HE WOULD LISTEN TO KMAQ AND WHEN HE HEARD IN THE MORNING THE BIRTHDAY OF A FRIEND, HE WAS KNOWN TO PICK UP HIS PHONE, CALL THE PERSON AND SING OR GIVE A BIRTHDAY WISH. HE WAS A FRIEND THAT WILL BE MISSED. ARRANGEMENTS ARE PENDING AT THE CARSON AND SON FUNERAL HOME IN MAQUOKETA. PROBABLY TOMORROW, YOU CAN GO TO CARSON'S WEB SITE

MAQUOKETA CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT.
KMAQ HAS LEARNED OF THE DEATH OF LONGTIME MAQUOKETA ATTORNEY
AND MAGISTRATE, CARLIS BATY. BATY, AGE 64, DIED YESTERDAY AT THE LOCAL HOSPITAL AFTER A SHORT BOUT WITH CANCER. NO FUNERAL SERVICES HAVE
BEEN ANNOUNCED. HE SERVED IN THE US ARMY FROM 1970-72 AND JOINED THE H.D. KEELEY LAW FIRM IN 1976. BATY AND KEELEY BECAME BATY, KEELEY AND PAPE IN 1987 WHEN ALAN PAPE JOINED THE FIRM. THE LAW FIRM LATER
BECAME BATY AND TABOR. HE WIFE SUSANNE DIED A COUPLE YEARS AGO.
SHE WAS CARDINAL ELEMENTARY PRINCIPLE FOR MANY YEARS. CORLIS IS SURVIVED BY TWO DAUGHTERS, EMILY AND ERIN.
FORMER MAQUOKETA BANKER, LYNN "BILL" FULLER. AGE 85, DIED SATURDAY AT
MERCY IN DUBUQUE. HE AND HIS FATHER OWNED THE FORMER JACKSON STATE SAVINGS BANK, NEXT TO THE FORMER GREEN MILL, IN DOWNTOWN MAQUKETA. AFTER THE BANK WAS SOLD, HE MOVED TO DUBUQUE AND WAS A BANKER THERE FOR MANY YEARS. HIS FUNERAL WILL BE TUESDAY NIGHT, DECEMBER 22. AT 7 P.M. AT THE DUBUQUE BANK AND TRUST.
DONALD R. HART, AGE 82, DIED TODAY AT THE VETERAN'S HOME IN MARSHALLTOWN.
FOR YEARS, HE WAS AN ACTIVE MEMBER OF THE MAQUOKETA VFW. HE WAS A GOOD KMAQ LISTENER AND CAME TO ALL OUR FARM AND HOME SHOWS. HE LOVED TO DANCE. THERE IS ANOTHER DONALD HART STILL LIVING IN MAQUOKETA, A FORMER EGG FARMER. SERVICES FOR DONNIE ARE PENDING AT CARSON'S.
A WELL KNOWN CONCRETE CONTRACTOR, WHITIE MILLER, AGE 52, OWNER OF WHITIE'S CONCRETE IN PRESTON, DIED SUDDENLY OF AN APPARENT HEART ATTACK SATURDAY.
THE MAQUOKETA CARDINAL BOYS AND GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAMS WILL HOST DEWITT TOMORROW NIGHT AT THE NEW MCHS GYM. GIRLS AT 6 AND BOYS AT 7:30. BOTH GAMES WILL BE ON KMAQ AM AND FM. WE WILL TRY TO HAVE OUR "STREAMING" BACK AGAIN BY THEN.
THE BOOSTERS WILL HAVE A CAKE AUCTION ALSO.
IT'S PACK THE GYM NIGHT TOMORROW NIGHT. THE WEATHER MIGHT
CAUSE PROBLEMS.
